Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

I know! Wasn't it weird!

Yikes!!! the 20th??? good luck! STUDY HARD!

I've been really slacking lately...i've applied to medical school......its had me distracted

I just watched the respiratory sections of gasparas and AACN DVDs, she really cracked me up with her story about being intubated

.....and then rounded it off by doing the review questions from the gasparas book (I love it! its GREAT for review!)

Now just rinse and repeat to get it stuck in my head for longer than a week :p

Ridiculous! Did he have an attitude too? What does he want, D50 one hour and turn up the insulin drip the next hour?

quiet night at work tonight.......

hey dawn, where you at on the studying? what part have you enjoyed learning about the most? has anything been immediately useful to you at work? i've been able to use some of gasparas 12-lead stuff (fireman's hat :p )

That is so cool that you will keep RN and MD on your badge!!!

What has really been helpful to me is the DKA stuff AND the aortic stenosis grunting sound that Dr Laura makes, I had a pt that sounded JUST like it and I knew immediately what it was. None of the other nurses who had assessed that pt knew that, they justed charted murmur!! That made me feel pretty darn smart! hehehe

Also, when pts get past the oliguric stage of ARF, and start producing urine, it really doesn't mean much, just part of the process. I was one of those nurses who got pretty excited when pts started putting out urine, well not so impressive after all. The Neuro part has REALLY been helpful as well. I float btw 3 ICUs, one being neuro, and a lot of my trepidation has left even with the small amt of content we've learned about it. The differences btw the hemorrhages and understanding the different signs (finally), posturing, etc.

I started this process about 2 months ago and it is amazing how much difference it has made. If I don't get into that class, I will pursue other certs, maybe the neuro one, CNRN!! yeeeooow! NEVER thought I'd hear myself say that!!!

Hey, thanks for asking Burnt...I'm going to be sad to have this over...I still may reschedule and take it when you are!!!!

I'm still here too!! Just busy witht hte kids goign back to school and trying to get in a little study time between work and all of the stuff with the kids. I have been doing some of the PASS CCRN quizes. Some of them make me feel very stupid. I have about a 50-70% pass rate!! Even on the cardio ones!!!! I am goign to do the PACWP website this week. We had to do it for work a couple of years ago.

We use "glucomanders" for our DKA patients and our CT surgery patients. And our septic patients. Well...actually anyone that winds up on an insulin gtt. Our surgeons don't like anyone to be over 110 (yes, I said 110). We also have a protocol we follow. Does anyone else use these??

I have found another distraction to studying...I'm in the process of buying my first house :) :) I'll get back to studying soon!! I promise!! Good thing I registered and paid for the exam! ha.

Hello!!! Glad you are still here!!!

Hey, don't worry about your test scores, they will pick up!!

I don't know what a glucomander is. What is it? I've been wanting to invent something that would give you a running blood glucose reading!! It isn't that is it?? If it is I want it!! hehe

Our insulin gtt protocol is that tight as well: 80-110 is the goal range!! What a pain in our behinds and our poor pt's fingers!!!

Keep checking in!! I can't remember, do you have Dr Laura's course?

Oh man, buying your first house!!! How cool is that!! I've only been in my first house for about 6 years now, you are going to love it!! What a great time to buy!

You are going to do great with the exam! You have plenty of time to do it all. Are you still going to try to see Dr Laura in October?? Man I gotta get on that, in case it sells out. I have to imagine she is pretty popular.

new house dance!!!

Woooooooooowwww we have us a stickied thread :)

Hey - what do you guys think of this: 100% NRB, 89-90% SaO2 on screen, RR 19, somewhat labored. Decreased LOC.

ABG: 7.35, Po2 59, Co2 43, bicarb 23.3, SaO2 on ABG 87.7%.

Feet started off somewhat mottled, as the night progressed the mottling crept up the legs to the thighs.

CT scan ruled out pneumo. RUL/ML/LL infiltrates. Renal failure.

What would you do?

Oh, systolic dropped from 170 to 73 within 2 hours.
