Anyone else struggle with HESI speciality exams?

Nursing Students HESI

Published

I particularly struggle with HESI speciality exams. I have three more semesters of nursing school, including the semester I just started this past Monday. Any advice, guidance, tips, suggestions etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you?

Our school suggested us read the blue HESI book prior to every HESI we took. Honestly some people did well as far as class grades but sucked at HESIs. My HESI scores went up with every HESI exam I took so don't feel too bad. By the time I took my Exit HESI, I made my highest score: over 1060! Good Luck in Nursing School!

Umm... the hardest one for me was the med-surg one. We had to take fundamentals, med-surg, mental health, gerontology, maternal-child, and exit. The first time I took my med-surg one, I only got an 849 on it, so that scared me a bit, since I was getting in the thousands for all the others. I think if you're getting at least in the 700s, you should be okay. I found that the HESIs were definitely harder than the NCLEX, but I'm glad we had them, because it definitely prepared me for the test-taking environment.

I will tell anyone that using those strategies in the Saunders NCLEX book chapter 5 is a savior. If you learn these strategies you should be fine along with knowing some content as well. I took exit and scored like 760, but when I retook and applied those strategies I got my passing score of 918. Had I utilized those in the first place along with my knowledge base, I would not have had to retake. Its about having stamina to take the exams first of all and then about HOW to take them/answer the questions. Good luck with the rest of nursing school and start practicing the strategies now before the exit don't wait!
