anyone else struggle with Algebra

Published

It has been years since I was in high school. I have taken some basic voccational classes. However, the math seemed easier back in those days. lol. I have taken Algebra twice, and now only have one more time to take it. I am grasping it. However, in California (not sure if its the same in all states) We only have 3 tries to pass a class. I used to love math in high school. Not sure what happened from then till now. I have this math class, intermediate Algebra & statistics to take if I want BSN. Only need intermediate Algebra if I want ADN. Just curious if anyone else has struggled with math. As it is essential for acheiving our goals. Thanks in advance!

If you use a Mac or iPhone, iTunesU has a lot of math classes...and since they are downloads, you can watch them whenever, regardless of connectivity.

I highly recommend youtube as well. I was able to find countless videos that walked me through whatever I was learning in class. It is also important to remember that most people don't walk away with 100% knowledge of a new concept introduced in math. The professor can get you as close to grasping the concept as possible, however it is up to you to seek out the answers outside of class. For me, I hired a tutor to help me, used youtube and khanacacdemy and others non-stop, raised my hand in class when I wasn't sure, emailed my teacher for guidance, met my teacher in the math lab before class, etc. Basically, you can do it, however you have to work really hard.

I re-turned to school extremely insecure about math, started with pre-algebra and worked my way through stats (4 classes total), all with A's. Our stat's class had an AWESOME tutor assigned to it, and it was surprising how few student's utilized her as a valuable resource.

You can do it!

YouTube and tutoring!

I struggled with Intermediate Algebra in the beginning really bad.. I had a D at the 8th week. I knew I had to change something. First thing I did was go to ol' faithful YOUTUBE! In class rather than writing while the teacher is explaining, I watched then jotted down the notes quickly and made little side notes to myself. That worked for me, I ended up with a B.
