Anyone else going to the USAGPAN in 2011?

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hello all, I am new to this forum but find it to be quite useful so far. I have a question....I have just recently applied to the Army's CRNA program for the calss starting in 2011. I was accepted by the LTHET board but I have yet to hear from NEU yet. When do you generally hear from them on your acceptance? Also, is there anyone else out there that applied to the same class starting in 2011 at Ft. Sam?

Hi,

I have read all the post about current and prospective CRNA's and I am truly inspired! I have a question that has not been answered throughly though.. ( maybe I missed it. lol) How long is the military commitment if you are planing on going through the USAGPAN program? I believe it was stated that it is 4.5 years or something, but is that the "total" time in the military or is that seperate from the 4 years you would initially have to do? I am currently a nursing student finishing my BSN, and I will have a job working in an ICU unit upon graduation. For example, If I enter the USAGPAN prgram in June 2012, ( hypothetically speaking) when will I be finished with my commitment to the military? I am 33, so I am looking ahead how old I will be once I am done! lol Thanks for your input!

From DODI 6000.13 and AR 351-3

Participants of long-term graduate (leading to a master’s or doctoral degree) education and training in a military or civilian institution shall incur an ADO of three times the length of the education or training for the first year, or portion thereof, unless such degree is incidental to the completion of an established residency or fellowship program; i.e., aerospace medicine. Additional ADOs for participation in excess of one year shall be one-half year for each half year, or portion thereof.

I believe the program is 2 years so your military commitment would be 6 years and I am not sure if that includes the 2 years of schooling. If it doesn't then your commitment would end June 2020. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

The Army school is going to three years with the start of their DNP program this summer. The time commitment is now 4.5 yrs for 2.5 yrs of school. The time commitment will go up to 5 yrs with the 3 yrs of school. That means if you were a direct entry applicant you would goto the Army's OBC then directly to school, and then you goto school for 3yr plus OBC and 5 yr payback. You are looking at 8yrs + or - with OBC between school and payback.
