Anyone else getting antsy about their applications to Direct Entry programs?

Published

Hey everyone, I'm still pretty new this website and have mostly been perusing through past threads. Some of them are a little dated and you have to do a lot of backtracking so I thought I would start a new generic thread inquiring about how everyone is feeling about waiting to hear from their schools.

I applied to UCSF, Columbia, Hopkins, and Yale for their accelerated/advance practice programs. I am getting very nervous and antsy wondering if I will get an interview or be accepted.

I applied for the Adult NP track in most with a specialty in HIV/AIDS care at UCSF and Columbia.

What is everyone else thinking/feeling right now?

Hi. We recently talked in another thread.

I just wanted to wish you luck! One of my old co-workers left for Johns Hopkin's this past summer to start the direct entry program there. She loves it. :-)

Hey melmarie. What kind of background did your friend have before being admitted?

I'd like to think that I have a strong background. So far I have close to six years of experience working with people with mental retardation, which has given me so much experience.

She was a Biochem major in college and she worked in a genetic research lab for a couple of years before applying to Direct Entry nursing programs. Hopkins was her first choice and she got in!

That's awesome! I was going to sign the early decision agreement just so that I could know if I got in, but Hopkins is not really my first choice even though I would really like to go there.

Hello, I am getting antsy but not too much so. I was silly last year and put all my eggs in one basket and applied to one program. Of course, I did not get in. So this year I quess I've went into power mode because I've applied to almost 40 programs across the country. I have already heard back from one that I am accepted. I wanted to wait until hearing back from atleast 50% of the program prior to making a definite decision.

I heard someone mention Hopkins in this thread...does anyone know the level of difficultly of Hopkins nursing FNP programs? I know that any program is going to be very time consuming, hard, and difficult. I am dedicated to change my work schedule, commit myself to studies but just curious...

Thanks.

I applied to Western Univ of Health Sciences in California...applications are due Dec 1st and we find out if we are selected for an interview around the end of Dec.

This is making me nervous lol...it's the only school I've applied to so far.

Wow yellowboneRN that's a lot of schools to apply to! I was going to do the same thing, but looking at my checking account after paying the application fee I decided to stop at my four.

It's great that you were already accepted somewhere. Is there one school that is your top choice?

Are you going to apply to any other schools?

Good luck to all on applications!! I too am super nervous about my applications, and I haven't even finished them yet. The due dates for my schools aren't until January 1 or March, but I wish they could be in and done with already before the holidays.

I'm trying for UIC, Rush, and DePaul's programs. (I am unfortunately limited to Illinois schools) UIC, however, is really my first choice.

I'm having some serious GRE anxiety and trouble writing my essays! Anybody else?

Weezbug,

Hey! Have you gone for an interview/tour or talked to any professors at UIC? I was in the same situation as you last year (UIC was also my first choice, but that was based on reputation) and ultimately chose DePaul because I felt like I was welcomed here much more so than UIC. I definitely suggest talking to professors at both schools (Rush as well, but I didn't apply there so I can't speak from experience) to see which is more right for you. Also, if you have any questions about the NP transition at Depaul (I'm going through it. They don't publish this but its actually only a 9 month certification post MS) feel free to let me know. I can answer any other questions about the school you may have as well.

Thanks, Imuzycan! I haven't met with any professors, yet. Any suggestions on who to meet with at DePaul?

Wow- so, only 9 months after the MENP program ends you are able to get your NP certification through DePaul? I'm probably over simplifying things, right? The NP designation is really what is drawing me to UIC. I am a little leary about picking a specialty right off the bat, which UIC forces you to do. How does the transition work? How long do you have until you are done? Do you know what specialty you plan on going into?

Do you mind if I ask what your undergrad GPA was, GRE score, or relevant experiences were? I'm a little nervous about my chances of getting into a program. I graduated from NIU with 3.76 GPA - major in Philosophy and Pre-med. I haven't taken the GRE yet, but will probably score average, average, average (Hopefully- ...I don't standardize test well). Sorry for the barrage of questions!!
