Hello
Just wondering if anyone else had their contract canceled due to Hurricane Sandy? I know this is a bit late but when I went searching I did not see this topic.
Wondering if you were canceled and what you are doing now?
Just to get this started I was at NYU behavioral health unit and was canceled by them. They paid me for that week OCT 29th- Nov 3rd and then I went home where I always have a very challenging time finding work.
What is your story?

Maybe they got washed away?
Gentlemen, I asked a serious question and frankly do not appreciate all the humor directed towards society's most vulnerable human beings.
Can we get back to the original message at hand?
NYU is a very large University Hospital in Manhattan. There were many travel contract nurses there in all departments.
I would just like to hear from the other Nurses who had their contracts canceled and how they have fared.
Thank you.

I was thinking the same thing, fawnsternnurse! It's really unfortunate that these folks are either nurses or aspiring nurses. I cannot weigh in on your question, but I sincerely wish you well in finding a new assignment very soon. Be well!

Was the travel agency not given a reason why the cntracts were being cancelled?
So again without the humor (for which I apologized for), what happened to the patients? A storm does not change the need for care.
On a different topic, a contract that can be cancelled without penalties is not a contract. Who pays for housing and travel, not to mention your lost time? Again, at the risk of offense, that is crazy!
I am assuming that everyone posting heard about Hurricane Sandy? NYU NICU nurses carrying their patients down 15 flights of stairs? NYU Nurse being a guest of Michelle Obama during state of Union Address?
I am not complaining about contract being canceled. it was inevitable. The Hospital was destroyed during the Hurricane.
I am just wondering who else on the board experienced that and what they did when they left?
IE another travel contract?
Went home?
Took a FT job somewhere?
Just for the record, I thought NYU handled it very honorably. They paid me for the week.
I guess in a perfect world they would have paid until the end of the contract. I know if we Travel Nurses break a contract we are penalized. But I guess I really did not look at it that way. I understood the position of the Hospital. I applaud them for continuing to pay all their FT nurses even though the hospital remained closed until first week in Jan 2013.
