Anyone else apply to LCC's Nursing Program

Published

Hi,

I applied for LCC's nursing program for the full-time, will take part time option for the march 2011 deadline and now it is all I can think about . This wait is awful for me, I went from having 86 points and feeling very confident but got a letter saying I only have 84 which totally changes my confidence level. Just wondered if anyone else on here applied, what their points were and if they think 84 will be enough. I am so nervous and just want to know if I am in or not. Anyone else having a hard time waiting and wondering what will be enough?:confused::confused:

Double check the points you calculated when you sat down with your advisor and compare them to the letter you got. It's possible they made a mistake, if so, follow up with them.

I applied too, and although I'm feeling quite confident that I got in, the wait is grr :)

I think the cut score was 81 last time right? I would think that you would be in with 84 pts. Something will have to change soon. The points just keep going up! I graduate in December and when I applied the cut score was 74? and I had 81 pts at that time. It took a huge jump last time, but I don't know how much higher it can go. I had a 4.0 in almost every class and work experience. But I was out of district...which sucks, but I got in my first time. Good Luck!!

Yeah, its worth it to double check. When I got my letter, they had calculated 83 points but I thought I should have 86. It was just a little technicality so they ended up giving me the 86 points. 84 should probably be enough, but the more confident you can be, the better! I also applied to the accelerated program with 55 points, but that was the cutoff last year, so I'm not feeling too confident about that. I think we should hear back about acceptance mid-April? Its so hard to wait!

Thank you both! The waiting is seriously making me crazy, I would really just like to know. When I got the letter I called them and I can't debate the 84, but like you when I had 86 I felt so confident about it. What happened was that in my high school health careers pathway I got a D for 1 semester and a C for the other (young, stupid and no clue it would affect me later in life). Those two didn't make the required 2.5 for the extra points which I had overlooked/not thought about all this time, taking all these pre-reqs.

I have really, really good grades with the exception of writ 121 which is 2.5. If I don't get in I'll have to seriously start working on the new points scale with volunteer hours and retaking that class which will give me the most points possible for the program.

I just seriously took a nose dive when I went from 86 to 84, and my confidence of being accepted is just not there anymore. I cannot imagine how it can take so long to find out! AHHHH!!!!

I have a friend in a Med Term class this semester who has 87 points and another who applied with 82. I'm sure its a little easier for those in that range. I would imagine the 87 is very confident, not to much to worry about that, its almost to the point of just go ahead and buy the books, your good to go! I also know the person with 82 is pretty sure she isn't getting in.

I read a few posts last year of people who got their letters on April 13th so I am really hoping for 2 weeks or less to wait.

Congrats on the 86 points though! I'm pretty sure that will be more than enough to get accepted :nurse: As for already being in the program I was wondering if you can tell me if it's really as bad as everyone makes it out to be? Any suggestions for us nebies?

I feel much better after reading your point scores,I just started this whole process after working in another field for 18 years before losing my job.I almost quit before I started when the adviser had me thinking I would have to get at least a 3.5 GPA to get in,the most points you can get is 174 based on the fall 2012 guide.

Hmmm Not really sure where you got the 174 from unless they changed that within the past month but I believe the most for the 2012 year will be 79 if your talking about a traditional program. You may want to check it again and remember you only get 1 set of points out of each option. I do have over a 3.5 gpa overall for classes that count towards the nursing program.

1 Residency-up to 10 points

2 Cumulative GPA-up to 80 points

3 Completion of all classes listed on page 6-40 points

4 Patient care work-up to 20 points

5 Volunteer work-up to 10 points

6 Completion of CNA type class,or H.S. H.C.P.-UP TO 6,10 points

7 Previously on alternate list-up to 4 points

I could be wrong but, this is how the adviser explained it to me.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! I just erased everything I wrote!!!

Guess I'll give this another try!!!

@ rac74... I am so glad you posted what you did! I had looked over the advising guides a few times and noticed that 2011 and 2012 years were combined and at the top it said 2012 was subject to change at anytime. I had looked at a few times, saw the max points were 79 and then figured out what I had and what my back up plan should be in case I need one (I sure hope I don't!!!:vlin:)

When I saw your post I looked again and they now have them as 2 seperate guides and your totally correct with the new points. I would have messed up without your post not haven taken BIOL 204 and a few other small details. I really appreciate you posting that! :bowingpur:yeah:

When I called last week they said that letters :tosanta: wouldn't be going out until the last week of April or first week of May which is turning into a really long wait not to mention the fact they are suppose to notify us by May 1st according to the advising guide!!! :banghead: :spbox:

It's just that all my plans are depending on an a simple yes or no from the college and its makin the wait harder and harder as time goes by. :anbd:

I also saw a thing that said only $400 dollars would be given out for financial aid students prior to the semester with the rest coming out about 4 weeks after the start date. I don't know if you all have looked at the book and supply list but $400 is no where near enough for everything thats on there. :grn:I guess either way now is a good time to start saving some money.

Hopefully this will be the week we find out but either way we are getting close so I am doing my best to just relax *wine*wine*winewhile hopefully waiting for good news.

Thanks again!!!! :tku: :yeah::yeah::yeah:

Yay!!! I got my letter today! Got accepted and so did my friend with 82 points. We got accepted to different start dates though. Does anyone know if they will let people switch start dates?

Thanks!!!

Yay! Congrats! This makes me so excited to go home and look at my mail! I had been excitedly looking every day for the longest time with no results, so I just kind of gave up until May 1st. I can't wait to actually have that acceptance letter in my hand! Are you accepted to start in the Fall or Spring, Rnstudent2011? They just randomly assign you, correct? I hope I'm starting in the Fall; I'm so ready to get back to school!

If anyone else is in this situation and wants to switch a 2 year track seat start date please let me know...

Thanks!!!
