Anyone else anticipating January submission for Air Force COT 2012?!

Hey,

I am applying for and will *hopefully* be accepted into the Air Force health professions as an officer! :yeah: I am so excited and am reaching out to see if there is anyone else out there in my shoes? I had my MEPS last week, getting all of my paper work together; most likely to be completed by the end of November. Is there anyone else applying for COT training next year? Please message me!

Or is there anybody who had gone through the COT and what to expect? I know that every body had new and different experiences but I am interested on how to prepare: what to study, how to work out!, etc.

Hope to hear back from some body! :coollook: This message board is usually what I would 'google' when searching for some information on Air Force COT for nurses.

Thank you!

Hey mkb0521...

I am applying for the Jan 2012 board too. Pretty much have all the paperwork together and turned in just waiting on this medical form. I haven't been scheduled for MEPS yet though. I'm not really sure when I'm going to that because my recruiter hasn't even mentioned a possible date. I guess maybe she's waiting until I get that form in the mail. How was MEPS? Are you just in a waiting period right now? Have you had a interview with the CNO yet? :)

Hey!! Thank you for responding! I am currently getting my evaluations out there and my paper work complete. I want it all to end! There is so much to do, I was not expecting this.

MEPS was alright. My recruiter told me that "it is ran by the Army so do not get discouraged." It was a long morning, but it is over and that is that. Nothing more than an awkward doctors appointment that lasts 6 hours with other girls. For me I thought I was in the wrong place when a bus load of high school kids arrived!! haha...

I have not had my interview yet. I do not know when that will be?? Did you? how did yours go? Was it what you expected??

Where are you from? What type of nursing are you in?

I just spoke with my recruiter yesterday and she said she got a lot of info sent to her with my name on it but hasn't been able to organize it yet because she was out of office. So I'm hoping that she received all my transcripts and evals. She's going to let me know this week. There really is sooo much paperwork to do, fill out, have other people fill out. It can be stressful but I think I got most of the hard part out of the way.

No, I haven't had my interview either. But I have read a lot of tips that other people have posted on here. So if you thumb through the threads then you should be able to figure out all the information you want/need to know about the interview.

I'm from Atlanta and a hem/onc nurse. I currently am doing case management, but thinking about going to bedside full time (I'm PRN now). I really want to get some ICU or ER experience before I *hopefully get accepted*. I posted a thread yesterday and asked would that even be helpful at this point so I'm hoping that some of the experienced nurses will reply. They are really helpful.

What about you? Where are you from? Type of nursing? How long have you been a nurse?

Well, I'm glad to know that this process has stressed other people out too and I'm not the only one, :lol2:.

Thanks for your support!!! and knowledge! I try to speak with people at my job and when I am around but no one seems to understand the process or what is to come!?

I will thumb through the threads, I appreciate it. I would always google military nursing and this would always pop up. now I am apart of it.. weird. Maybe just me!

I am from Pittsburgh, currently working as a trauma/burn nurse in a critical care unit. I have only been a nurse for 1.5 years but I ready to get more experience else where around the US/World! Why not?!!

Do you want to do floor nursing while in AF? WHEN accepted, when do you anticipate going to COT??

We will make it through!!! :yeah::up::up::up:

Oh, no problem. It's cool bouncing ideas off one another. I just joined this forum not too long ago too after coming on here and reading a lot of the post.

How do you like working in the trauma/burn unit? I had to apply to med/surg for my AF application since I don't have any ICU/ER experience. I am willing to do med/surg but I'm not sure if I want to stay in med/surg (which is what my last post was about. I'm really hoping to get some feedback). My floor should be considered as having some type of critical care experience because a lot of our patients are heavy acuity wise and especially when first diagnosed they are really critical. But it's not. And I've been trying to get some ICU/ER experience but it's been really hard transferring out of oncology. I wonder if it's the same in the AF?

I'm not exactly sure when to anticipate going to COT. I think it just depends on how many slots they have available (at least from what I've read on here) but I'm not really sure.

I hope some more people join our chat...

Just finished my paper work and now I am waiting for everything to go to my recruiter. It won't be long now (I hope!!) woohoo!!!

any new news for you?? MEPS? CNO meeting scheduled??

Specializes in Hematology/Oncology.

Hey! So I pretty much thought I was done with my paperwork and my recruiter just informed me last week that there was more paperwork to fill out :crying2:. A question from the questionnaire changed so I have to go back and revise that and she said the board wanted a more detailed CV from everyone...so of course I have to go back and revise that. Some of the forms, like permission for credit check, I feel could have been given to me at the beginning instead of last week. I'm sure she knew that would've needed to be signed. I feel like I'm pretty much at the beginning of the process again...UGH. Even though it probably seems like I'm complaining a lot about it, I'm really not, she has been sick for 2 weeks last month and out of office. It's just a little frustrating. But any way enough venting for me! Now just to get it all done...

She did give me the request for examination form to sign so I faxed that back to her today. No CNO scheduled meeting date as of yet.

Thanks for the update. Keep me posted on any new news and I'll update you too :D.

UGH How sucky!!! No that stinks really bad... I took your advice and read around the message boards today, and they all seem to be like that! It is DEFINITELY difficult and a pain in the rear to get in (I'm sure its a million times worse to get out, haha!)

Anyhow, I hope that my questions are OK too. My recruiter seems to be on top of things for the most part, and will see how it goes!

Did your recruiter say anything about commissioned bonus? Mine hasn't so I was doing research and I found something for 2012. However, I can't tell if it means that it is still in place when you sign or if it is not... http://armedservices.house.gov/index.cfm/files/serve?File_id=60d9fd35-6a4b-4840-ab8c-3b1556d375d6 its a long bill so I typed in accessioned bonus. Maybe you can decifer or know what the deal is?

ps are you doing active or reserves??

Specializes in Hematology/Oncology.

LOL...I'm sure you are right about the whole getting out thing. She said the bonus is $20-$30 thousand. Not including student loan repayment. I wonder when do we fill out the forms for that too?! I'm planning on doing active. What about you? I'm going to look at the link you posted more closely when I get home from work tonight.

Hello. I just finished with the entire process. MEPS and CNO. I am waiting for the Nov. Board results stating that I am accepted or not. My hopes are that I will be slotted for the JAN COT date.

As for some of the questions that I saw in this thread, the sign on bonus paper work gives the option for a 30K bonus with a 4yr committment. There is a tuition reimbursement, too.

There is also the option to sign on for 3 years with no bonus.

I was given 8 bases to choose from due to my ER specialty.

I also want to let you know of the "Direct Commission" Loan that USAA bank offers. A one time loan up to 25K for people commissioned into the military. A very low interest rate, too!

So, are the people on this thread looking for a January COT date, too?

I am hearing from my recruiter that the Nov boards will be released this week? Have any of you heard the same?
