Hi....just wondering if anyone is doing disease management with Optum. I was working at home doing disease management through Intellicare, but I, along with quite a few other RN's, was let go in May, due to some contract issues and mass staff reduction. I have been offered a position with Optum for disease management and wanted to network with other nurses who work there.....see what you think, how satisfied you are with your job. I am very excited and seems to be a good place to work. It looks like a very friendly environment. Anxious and excited to get started. :)

I don't know anything about that program but wanted to say I was sorry that happened to you/lay off. I hope they gave you a good severence package.

I wonder about that and hope it does not happen to me.

I've been researching jobs on the United Healthcare site, and found Optum there. It sounds like something I'd like to do, so I hope someone posts that has experience with Optum already. :)

Sorry to hear about your job loss. :icon_hug: I'm out of work myself, thus the need to land some good employment soon. I don't want to take a job for the sake of money, although I need the money to pay bills and keep a roof over my head. It's just not enough anymore to work "any ol' place". It's my daily life I lay on the line when I give an employer eight to 13 hours of my day, so it's important to me to be able to gain something in return...besides the money. I wish you well! :balloons:

Well, I figure I might as well enjoy posting while I can because once I'm employed again, I won't have this kind of time I'm sure. :chuckle

I put my Ohio RN license on "inactive status" two days ago when I mailed them the renewal form. Although I was born and raised in Ohio, and worked there as a nurse off and on, I don't think moving back there is for me...at least not now. I'd like to venture out and travel again. I'm currently looking into taking a travel assignment to Chicago for the summer/fall months. That's when I like the "Windy City" the most. :) I also may return to Colorado and do a travel nurse assignment if the right one comes up. Nursing is all I know...so it's all I'll be doing for awhile anyway. I've tried leaving, and looking for non nursing jobs with no luck. The hourly pay wages won't even pay my car note each month. :uhoh3: I've tried getting jobs in doctor's offices with no luck. So...I've got to survive, right?

:balloons: renerian...don't kill yourself working all those hours. life's wayyyy too short to spend it at a job all the time. stop and smell those roses, breathe in the wonderful aroma of the cinnabons at your local shopping mall, eat a soft pretzel, play with your family....just don't waste your life soley on beating the job to death. (((( :icon_hug: ))) i know i know...bills, bills, bills. :uhoh3: i've got loads of those too, but i'm learning that i can work myself into a very weary stress-filled state of being and still have bills to pay. no sooner i get them paid for the month, that month is already over and the next month comes with bills and stresses of its own. i had to be forced into stopping the insanity before i ended up being a slave to the never-ending bills bills bills. now that i've had a couple months off work and spending much time strengthening my faith and being obedient to my creator's will, i'm not so strung out anymore in this "fast paced race" of life that i will never be able to keep up. so...slow it down for your own sake, for that of your family. let go and embrace life more. and that's my :twocents:!!! :flowersfo

Hi Renerian.....thanks for the good thoughts about my job situation. I start my new disease management position on July 25.....very excited about it. I've been so stressed lately, trying to find something....worrying about money, etc. I really wanted to stay with disease management. I've been in home care for 18 years and was totally ready for a change.

As far as the severance package, I've never been through this before so don't know what would be considered "good". I received 2 weeks pay. I had accrued some PTO, but was not eligible to receive it since I was still in my probationary period. I understand that the nurses who were out of their probation were given any time that was accrued in their PTO account.

I did get a call today on my voicemail from them.....wanting to know if I was interested in doing some prn work this summer. I sent all my equipment back when this happened, like I was instructed to do, so not sure what the prn work would entail. My new job is full time so doubt if I would have time for it. I'm supposed to call them back tomorrow.

You sound very busy. I agree with others...make sure and enjoy your life....don't work all the time if you can help it! :)

Thanks again....Shelley

Yes I do need to slow down.Life is flying by!

renerian :)

I work for a company that was purchased by UHC last year. We function much like Optum. When training with UHC, I had the pleasure of visiting two different Optum sites. One was in Plano Texas, the other in Rhode Island. Both sites were very impressive. I sat with the nurses and watched them do their work.As far a disease management, I think it is very rewarding work and you will really enjoy it. Get to help and educate alot of people. The computer system is awesome. Both places that I visited seemed like great places to work. UHC is big on education and you are about to learn alot of information. I have really enjoyed the transition to Optum and the UHC way of life. I wish you the best of luck. This is a big company and there is great opportunity with United.

Thanks tlf91........good information to know. I start my new job with Optum on the 25th and am very excited about being able to stay in disease management. I recently received a call from my previous employer, wanting to know if I would like to do prn work from home during the summer. I told them I will have enough on my plate with my new job, so I don't think that will be an option. After what I went through with them, I doubt if I would go back to work there.

I've already received my new hire paperwork. The pay and benefits are excellent with UHC and so far I'm very impressed with the office environment. Thanks for the reply. :)
