Hi!!
Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying or is planning to take the CEN certification exam sometime in the next 6 months or so who would like to start a thread as a study and support group?
Personally, I have just started this process and would really like to have a support system through Allnurses.
Thanks very much!! Hope to hear from you soon!!
If you all want some recommendations on study guides check out Amazon.com, if you look for my profile (mwboswell) you can see I"ve reviewed most of the CEN books available with pros/cons of each. That being said, DO NOT get the CEN "SECRETS" (the yellow/black book), it is poor quality and overpriced for what it offers!!!! I'd like to think I can review these books pretty well as I used all of them when I developed our 2-day CEN exam review course that we do. Hope this helps!
i ordered the older cen review book online, just because it was cheep and, by some total coincidence my nurse manager said there would be a review course in october. hopefully ill have enpc and tncc done by then. i have been working in the er a total of eleven months.
my manager took a cool attitude toward it, whats the worst that can happen? also my hospital gives an $1800 bonus to those passing cen, which is not too shabby.

So what do you recommend?
I am taking it on June 24th-- and I am a nervous wreck!!!! There is only one other CEN in my ER and she is my manager-- and nobody knows that I am taking it because I am saving myself the humiliation if I flunk!!!

Best of luck on the exam! Think positive thoughts, you can do it
I too have been studying for years and something always comes up.
My hospital offers $1 more an hour, still I procrastinate.I just don't want to fail.
There are no 'review classes' in my "neck of the woods" (Alabama)
I have tons of books and the Gloria tapes too. This time I'm gonna do it!
I have filled out the request application and am going to mail it off TODAY!
After reading all of the posts I feel energized and will come back again and again!

Where you at in Alabama?
We're coming to Pensacola in October to do a 2-day review/live class....
If you think you could get 4-5 others together and you hospital to put us up meeting room/space for 2-days, we might could talk about bringing a class right to YOU....
email me off list if interested.... [email protected]
This is for all of you who are fearful of failing. The CEN is not an impossible exam. I find many people bloviate over the credential and make it appear to be an impossible "red badge of courage" that only the "true elite" emergency nurses can obtain.
Please see the link below. The pass rate is around the 70 percentile. You can pass this exam.

Study, take several practice tests, go in with a winner take all view, and come out with CEN after your name.
