Anyone attending Ameritech?

Published

I am interested in going to Ameritech in Draper and would appreciate any feedback from students who are attending or have attended Ameritech's Nursing program!!

Thanks so much!!

I just took my final exit exam from Ameritech on Friday and passed..yay! Now I am just scheduling the NCLEX which will hopefully be this week or next week and then I'll be done. Ameritech is a great school. Just like every other school, there are staff member that aren't as good as others, etc., but overall they teach you what you really need to know as a new grad RN. I would recommend this school to you. Along with the great education they offer, you get the opportunity to make so may new friends that are going through the same things that you are; it really is a lot of fun that way! They are now completely accredited, so that would be a worry you'll never have to have. Good luck with you decision! :lol2:

Thanks for the information. I was just wondering if you could transfer your credits for a BSN program? I am sooo worried that I will start my RN at Ameritech but then won't be able to transfer my credits over to another school for their BSN.....??

I was told several years ago by an advisor at the U that they will absolutely NOT transfer credits from Ameritech!

However Ameritech is now accredited by NLNAC, so the U's position may have changed.

I would get the answer directly from them before I spent any time or money on a program like that. They offer info sessions twice monthly with the next one being next week in fact.

Keep in mind that SLCC is changing their admission procedure and eliminating the wait list. It's a superior education with better community partnerships at much less cost. https://allnurses.com/ut-nursing-programs/slcc-changes-admission-622873.html

Ameritech is tempting because you can practically start today, but right now new grads in Utah are having a hard time finding jobs with preference being given to programs like the U, BYU, UVU, WSU and SLCC. The economy will change eventually and we'll all find jobs again with hiring bonuses, but for the time being if you're thinking of Ameritech to finish faster and go back to work faster, keep in mind that you'll actually have to get hired.

I went to Ameritech and graduated from the program. I would suggest going to a different school. The program is so weak now. We lost a tone of teachers that were really good and replaced them with terrible teachers that don't know the subjects they are teaching. I was lucky enough to have the teachers I did, but no WAY would I join the program with the way things are going now.

Transfer of academic credits doesn't have anything to do with NLNAC accreditation (or lack of same) -- it's about general academic accreditation (of the entire school, not just the nursing program). Ameritech is not accredited by any of the organizations that accredit "regular" colleges and universities. Because it is not recognized as meeting the general academic standards of "regular" colleges and universities, they do not accept the courses as comparable to their courses, and most likely will not accept the credits for transfer.

This is an example of why so many of us here keep making that point that NLNAC accreditation isn't the only kind of accreditation people need to think about when they are "shopping" for a nursing program -- the general academic accreditation of the school is also important.

It's an awesome school! I highly suggest it!
