Anyone applying to SRJC ADN for Fall 2016?

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone,

I applied to SRJC ADN and wanted to see who else applied. I'm new to Allnurses, so my apologies if there is already a thread. If you know any info about when they are emailing us, or if you know other details, please share. Good luck everyone!!

I strongly suggest using the ATI study guide (they write the test)., taking the 5 sample tests over and over, and take the online sample tests that are included in the bundle. It's not as bad as the tests in nursing school, that's for sure!

Hi Angelkissed! So I was suppose to be in your class last year! Its good to see you at your halfway mark!!! Congrats!!! Are you traveling or staying in SR? I am debating on moving closer to make this work since I have two little ones at home. Currently I am in Fairfield, one hour away with no traffic. But on traffic days/times, I fear I will never see the kids! Any advise? Anything you wish you had prepped for befor class started like medical math or pharm?

You had a baby in February, right? Always wondered what happened to you! The traffic from Fairfield Inn the mornings is going to be HUGE. A good friend drives in from Vallejo and has to get moving at 4 am to make 8 am lectures. Your lectures start at 7:30 am. PM me and we'll exchange phone numbers and talk.

Hi AngelKissed -

In preparation for entering a program, I'm in the process of reteaching myself A&P since I took it about 4 years ago. Do you recommend focusing on specific areas over others? Also do you recommend specific terminology I should focus on?

Thanks in advance for the advice :)

Are you in the SRJC program? I can share info on prep for it, but of course don't know specifics about other programs.

I'm an alternate who also received a TEAS test date, but I've already taken the TEAS so I just submitted my results. I'm hoping I'm high on the alternate list.

My second option is Shasta CC for which I'm on a wait list. My number should be coming up sometime in 2017 based on prior incremental moves up the list.

So I'm hoping my A&P review will be for the SRJC program, but there is a chance it might be for a different program.

Great that you have a TEAS date! This program is a lot of work, but it is awesome! Your first semester is MedSurg. You will have a TON of skills labs, crazy busy. You will also have ATI and from what I hear, it's a lot of time. That started the semester after mr, I'm actually jealous-it's a terrific resource my cohort doesn't get. I'll be speaking at your orientation, so we'll meet there. Being up on medical terminology is good, I wouldn't worry about your A and P. What you need is already in your brain. Order your book bundle the split second they give you the code. Start reading the clinical skills book. If you do that, with the chapter quizzes and the online resources, you'll be so far ahead of the game! If you're OCD like me, read up on Ace inhibitors, Beta Blockers, Furosemide. Oh, and managing bowel care. But, have fun this summer, you are going to busy in A semester, you're going to lose your bloody mind in B semester. Nursing school is a love-hate relationship. But honestly, for the most part, I'm having a blast, doing what I always dreamed of. Please please please seriously look at applying to the SSU CNECM program for your BSN. Applications due in January I think.

Thanks for the tips! I definitely want to apply to the SSU CNECM program, but it will depend which semester I get into, if any. I read that applicants must start their program in the fall in order to have two semesters under their belt before starting the SSU classes in their first summer. I was doing some research online and found some people saying that alternates normally get added to the spring cohort because the school first offers fall spots (if any become available) to students who have already been accepted into the spring cohort, meaning alternates would fill spots in spring from students who moved to fall. What do you think; do you know if this statement is true?

Thanks, AngelKissed! (my pm isn't working yet as my account is too new)

I got accepted for spring 2017 as well! I honestly forgot I applied since this was my first time applying, so I feel lucky to get in first try! I'm also very torn-I am 26 have a good job in a laboratory making good money and have health insurance, etc. I would be giving all of that up to be poor again in school (already have a bachelors degree in Biology). I'm so excited, but my parents aren't happy for me AT ALL! it makes me sad. I too live in Fairfield. I may commute part of the time and stay at my boyfriend's in Petaluma the other part. Is it normal to question if I am making the right decision to quit my well paying job to do this? ahh so many emotions I'm feeling haha

Is it what you really want to do?

I believe it is when I graduated college in 2013 I never knew what I wanted to do-a month before I graduated my brother got hit by a truck and I had to rush him to the ER. That's when I realized I wanted to go into nursing. I had accepted a job offer already at my current job though so I figured I'd work and take my pre-reqs for nursing school. Then last year my grandpa died, and I spent 3 months in hospitals with him; the nurses there were so amazing and comforting and I want to be able to help and comfort not

only patients but their families as well. I'm just scared since I'm giving up a good job, and my parents basically said I'm disrespecting them by getting a second degree when they worked so hard to pay for my first one! I already accepted and am planning on going, I just feel sad that nobody in my family is happy for me-I feel like me sacrificing a 70,000 salary, to live on my savings proves I want this. Just wondering if other people have ever had doubts or fears about it
