Anyone Applying to Samuel Merritt ABSN April, May, June 2009?

Published

Is anyone else applying to ABSN at Merritt for Spring 2009. Let's post our experience the next 6 months here. I'm just getting started on my application due nov 1. Good luck.

Has anybody that got accepted into the Oakland campus live in Contra Costa County?

I got accepted to the Oakland campus, and live in Contra Costa county. If a few of us live near each other it would be great to carpool.

I just got my waitlist too.. but good luck! I'm 29!!! =( I'm so sad. I cried when I read it, but hopefully people will shift around a bit. I'm trying to remain hopeful as I still need to mail in my final transcripts and my CPR certification.

Hey guys,

I've been searching for some sort of class profile or acceptance stats, but I can't seem to find any. I'm going to be applying to their ABSN and I need some encouragement. My GPA is tragically low (2.7), BUT I have straight A's on my pre-reqs, 92 on the NET, 2 years experience as a nursing assistant, great LORS and lots of volunteer experience. I took the GRE (760 verb/600 quant) and I'm going to send them that as well- why not.

Will my embarrassing GPA immediately take me out of the running? Give me some good news.

I would go for it!!! Also don't they look at your last 60 units? I have applied to so many schools I can't keep them straight but if you did your prereqs last that has to be in your favor. I got into the Oakland campus. I didn't have all A's on my prereqs. I think that I had an overall higher g.p.a. and I got 99 on the net. They are now taking the TEAS test instead. ( but I think they are taking the net one more time.) I think that you have an excellent shot!! I have 5 years volunteer experience and am taking a cna class now that I am sure I added into my essay... GO FOR IT... As I always say you can't play if you don't win.. At least the application fee isn't as much as the deposit.. ekkk..

LilGumble ,

Sorry to hear you are so far down the wait list. Which was you first choice campus?

I picked 1)SF 2)Oakland 3)San Mateo

I'm going to check the mail today with hope even though Lizzie said the rest of the letters are going out today. (thanks Alyssa831)

Question: Besides those who got acceptance letters for the SF cohort in the beginning of Feb, is there anybody who got accepted lately?? ie) end of Feb or early March??

I keep going over the stats in my head to see what my chances are!

Good luck everyone. I can tell there are many of us who REALLY want this!

Sara

hi starr003,

i only know of sf people who got their letters in early february. most of the people i know who got accepted to other campuses got their letters on tuesday or wendesday of last week. they said their acceptance letters were dated for last monday, march 2nd.

i'm still waiting also. it's agonizing.... i just got an email from lizzie saying:

your decision letters went out either friday morning or this morning. if you have not received your letter by march 16th please email me and let me know.

my two friends who got put on a waiting list got their letters on saturday.

i hope the letters going out today are acceptance packets!

good luck to all of us still waiting :)

I was grateful to get Lizzie's email update today. Although, I checked the mail and no letter today. I live in the Mission District of SF, so if the letters went out this morning I may get one as early as tomorrow.

Crossing my fingers!! Good luck everyone.

Oakland was my first choice, then SM & SF, but I will go wherever I get in. I'm confused because I have a 3.72 over all GPA (3.91 for the last 90 units) and 3.84 in the prereqs and I got a 90 on the NET. I'm hoping its because I'm just finishing up my microbio class now... (finals are next week!) So I'm hoping once I mail that in along with my CPR cert that my chances will improve.

Does anyone have any news??

Mailbox empty today =(

I'm hoping tomorrow is IT!!

sstarr003... You're not alone. Nothing for me yet either.

Anyone else got anything? I'm hoping it's taking long because the envelope is big! LOL.

I'm going nuts waiting for my envelope to come. I keep wondering in my head if I was good enough to be in the ABSN program...

For everyone that got accpted, I'm wondering the following questions.

1. What is your experience in Health Care? ie, do you volunteer or work in HC?

2. What did you write about in your paper?

3. Who wrote your letters of Rec? A Professor? Nurse? Boss?.

I'm just curious because I'm pretty clear about what the expected GPA and NET scores are. Everyone that gets in gets good marks in those areas... but I'm wondering maybe I messed up some place else?

Any information that you accepted ones can share would be very valuable to me.

Thank you all!

And wish the rest of us luck :)

I am glad I am not the only one that has an empty mailbox...I really thought I would hear from SM by today. The waiting is torturous. I will be thrilled to get in, but is anyone else besides me still nervous about the cost of attendance?
