Anyone applying at La puente, or other LPN program?

Published

I'm seeking a friendly and motivated study partner. I have taken the TABE level A test before and passed the math 12.9 but failed the English portion. We can help each other and minimize our study preparation time so if you're seeking a study partner , please feel free to message me.

Im applying to el monte adult school this week. Have you applied yet? Have you applied to any other schools? any advice?

Really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi, I applied last week and will be taking the TABE test Sept 19th. Have you applied yet? Whats your test date? I have not applied to any other school.

Wow really? El Monte is cheaper?

I finished the nursing program at Hacienda La Puente this summer. Total cost was about 3k (supplies and shots etc etc? Fafsa covered 5,500. Thought that was pretty cheap.

The TABE test, just read the material QUICKLY and thoroughly if thats possible. If you do get accepted to the prelvn make sure you dress professionally. Last time I was evaluating the people who were in the prelvn. We automatically crossed out the people who weren't dress profession (show us that they are not taking the course seriously)

Thank you so much for the advice. My biggest issue is reading comprehension and grammar rules. Any advice for these particular sections? I have been studying the transitional words and signal clue words in addition to seeking clue words for the author's tone, purpose and main idea.

Hi, no i havent applied yet, i went in to get the application and will be returning all the paperwork this friday. Do they give you the testing date right away? Do you have an idea of how competitive this school is? I havent applied at any other school because im still doing research and getting deadlines organized for all my local ROP schools.

Thanks for the info! I was also thinking of applying at Downey but it seems way more expensive just to try to get into the program. I see the that for El Monte they have a prereq of advanced medical terminology. Any suggestions of where I can take that course? A study partner for the TABE test? That would be great! Have you ever taken one before?

You can take the medical terminology course at the adult school or community college. It's required first to complete the class before you can apply for the lvn program. I've taken the medical terminology. i have taken the tabe test before passed the math and spelling portion. i did not get in the program the first time because i did not pass the english/grammar portion.

Ok I saw that they offer a medical terminology class but it doesn't fit my work schedule. I'll look around for the class else where. I hope we stay in contact. I'll update when I turn in the paperwork.

Any tips on what to study for the tabe test? I recently took the assesment test at my CC. I've completed most of my GE, just needed English so I took the assessment test for placement. Are they somewhat similar?

Yes, look around at other schools that offer medicl terminology. Maybe even an online course if equivalent. I purchased the tabe level A study guide which I did not have the last time I took this test. You can get it at local library, amazon, barnes nobles. Their are study guides online too. Just google 'tabe practice test.'

Main topics are 12th grade level reading comp, math, spelling, and grammar usage.

The funny thing is I just completed english composition and received an (A-) but have trouble on these mutliple choice standardized tests. Lol

You are talking about the accuplacer right? I believe its similiar..not sure. Most compare TABE to a GED test format.

You've been very helpful! Thank you! I'll look into purchasing the study guide as soon as I turn in the application. I know Downey adult school offers a MT class online but it cost about $400 :0 might be my only option. Not sure if its worth it since it's not guaranteed that I'll get in the El Monte program. they also offer a prep class for the TABE test that I believe is under $100. Does La Puente have any prereq?

Yes that test lol! I scored pretty high I'm hoping I do good on the TABE. Do you know if they let u retake the test if you don't do good?

Let me know when you sign up for a test date, I'm open to study sessions to exchange test taking strategies.
