Anyone applying to Gwinnett Tech fall 2010 class?

Published

I haven't heard from any Gwinnett Tech applicants on here lately, is anyone here applying? I took the HESI evolve reach today, and I feel like I may still be in the running for one of the few spots that they have available. If anyone here thinks they might possibly get in, lets all start some communication on here so we can keep up with everything that's going on.

Do you have to take pre-test to get into nursing school? I never did, I took all pre-req classes, and got into nursing school. No test required. What is going on? This was back in the 1990s. Has it changed that much????

Then you should consider yourself very lucky, my friend. We ABSOULUTELY have to take entrance exams to go to any nursing school in the Atlanta metropolitan area now. I wish we didn't. And Gwinnett Tech's program is so competitive that we also have to sit for a panel interview to be considered for nursing school. If they're trying to be intimidating, uh.... it's working!

The reason why they are making people take an entrance exam is because they have a lot of applicants for just a few spots. Many of the people are getting 3.6 to 4.0 in the prereqs so they need something else to look at in addition to GPA. I personally think its crap because a test like the TEAS of A2 doesn't measure how good of a nurse one will be or even how good of a student one is. It would be like saying all the applicants are going to run in a race, the fastest ones will be the people that get a seat in the next class.

just my opinion

Does anyone remember when they said that letters for interviews would go out?

Well the last testing date is March 6th so im hoping in a week or two after that.

Hi guys,

Need a little advice. I am pre-nursing at Gwinnett Tech. Is it advisable to take the entrance exam after taking

AP1?

I believe you have to be invited to the first meeting before you can take the test. You have to take it at Gwinnett and in order to get to the meeting thing you have to have all 6 prereqs completed with AP2 is one of them as well as micro, before you can submitted your application

Hope that helps

The interviews are the week of March 8th. The last testing date is the 6th, so the letters should go out the 8th or so. Since the test is computerized and the computer already knows the gpas, the system will figure the top 60 that get the interviews. At least, that is how she explained it at the meeting and that is supported by the powerpoint notes that she handed out.

This whole process has not been nerve wracking AT ALL......

Thanks!

I was a little confused as to how that works. I guess based on GPA's, that determines how and who gets invited to testing?

You would think that with as many people that are interested in Nursing, they would have more informational sessions than they do. But I guess since they only take a class once a year, it really dosen't make since to do it any more often than they already do. Thanks Wifeofwhiskeyg!

Yeah if you have a 2.75 on the 6 prereq which are english, math, psychology, ap1, ap2, and micro then you will be invited to the meeting and signed up for the test. Acceptance is based on a point system. if you have a 4.0 in those 6 classes you get 50 points. and if you make a 100 on the test you get 50. the interview is worth 5 point. So 105 points is the "perfect" score. One has to make a 75 on the test to even pass it but since this is a points thing it doesn't guarantee anything. Right now I have a 3.6 gpa and a 88 on the test my points add up to 84 out of 100. (if I did it right) She did say that one could get a few extra points if you have all the prereqs out of the way, which I do and if you are currently working in the medical field which i am.

Now im worried!

Well, if you consider that at the meeting she said the averages last year were an 83 on the exam and a 3.4 GPA my calculations (or should i say guesstimation) the average points should have been approximately 84 overall points for the mean average. That means there were points above and below. I know there was at least one 4.0 gpa chosen in last years class (i am sure there was more) so i am sure the bottom overall points was somewhere in the lower 80s. I wonder if the people who declined a spot are factored into that average?

i know that everytime an email from school hits my phone i jump... i cant wait to know one way or another.

How are you geting 84 points if you dont mind me asking. I did hear the 3.4 but I guess i missed the 83 on the exam. By my math, which could be wrong a 3.4 gpa and a 83 on the exam is 77 points not including the interview or anything else. I get this number by saying 4.0 = 50. 3.9=49 3.8 =48 ect. then 100 =50 for the exam. so 99=49, 98=48 ect. That's how I am doing it. So if one had a 2.75 gpa and made a 75 on the exam they would have a 62.5.
