Anyone Applying to Antelope Valley College RN program

U.S.A. California

I didn't see a thread on AVC nursing so I just made one for everyone. IS anyone applying to AVC nursing or in the program already? The person working at the department told me it would be like 3 semester waits. I'm expecting to get in around fall 2011 or spring 2012 since I turn in my application around October 2010. Anyone in the program already, would you please share your experience. Anyone who is about to get in the program, can you please tell me how long you've waited since the time you turn in the application?

Thanks everyone!!!

I was told that I was in and should start the generic program Spring 2014 and should be getting a letter in late November. However, I have not received any emails about an information session... I'm confused

You'll get a big envelope sometime the end of this month. It explains everthing you need to turn in before registering to Nursing science 110&111. Not everyone from 1-60 on the waiting list gets the info session letter.

Check your spam in personal ...and AVC email. It's a broad letter that doesn't even say you've been accepted.

Just wait for the main package. It will give you a date to your ORIENTATION--that's the most important meeting. There you'll learn about what's expected of you in the nursing program.

In that package you'll get a form for the physical, drug pannel, where to do your backgraound and get , where to order your uniforms, the list of books/supply you'll need.

You ARE NOT required to do a fingerpring/live scan, like some person posted. Only a $50.00 background check online. In the orientation you'll get the chance to buy used uniforms which are over 50% off less than the new one.

Don't pay attention to the clueless ;-)

Thank you so much for all this information. I was really starting to worry and it was all a bit confusing since I'm number 36 on the wait list. I will check my spam and look out for that package in the mail! Thanks again!

I'm a senior in high school and I want to get my ADN at AVC, but I'm really confused on the process... I'm trying to put all the pieces to the puzzle... Could I apply to the ADN program right away and then take the prereqs for the program while on the waiting list? Is that possible? Or is that ridiculous?

I would advise that you schedule an appointment with a counselor to help guide you in the direction that most schools require. You'll need to complete your prerequisites first in order to apply for the program. You can take other gen ed classes while you're on the wait list. Hope this helps!

You'll be ok. That's why I hate when people who don't know anything post the wrong info. It makes everybody confused.

Believe me they make sure you get the date and time of orientation. In about a week -and- a half you'll get the package. When you get the malprace insurance, make it effective the date you start school (sometime in February)or clinicals.

I know for sure that people in the waitlist from 1-60 get an invitation to the take the TEAS. Those who pass...or have passed are accepted. Many people don't pass then they go back to the waitlist and send more invites. For people to post that numbers 1-60 in the wait list get info session letters is very irrisponsible.

I am # 165 yikes such a long way to go!

Ms1908- did you call to find out or did they send you a letter?

You'll be amazed how fast they move down the list.

I received my admissions packet yesterday in the mail. There is a letter that will tell you the orientation date and time (but the information is the same as what I received in the email). You must bring your admissions packet with you as they will be going step by step to make sure everyone does it right. Unlike what is previously mentioned, you DO need a live scan (fingerprinting) done. There is a form in the packet that gives you a list of approved places to get the fingerprints done. As for the used uniforms, there was no information in the packet about that. However, since the uniforms are personalized, I do not see how people can get used ones. On the uniform ordering form, it specifies the what is required to be written on the top of the scrubs.

You should be getting your acceptance letter very soon if you have not already received it. After reading through this forum, I have seen information thrown around by a few different people (mostly "thirdwatch" and a few by "joshash07". Sorry) that is incorrect or inconsistent. I would suggest ignoring everything posted on here and just wait for the information yourself. Until you are formally accepted and receive the packet, I don't believe advice or information should be given out. Everything you need to know is in the packet. If its not in the packet, then don't worry about it.

I was accepted to the program once. When I appeared to my orientation. A group of newgrads brought in used uniforms from previous students. I purchase one for about $45.00. It was NOT in the info packet. Give information until you attend your orientation.

I never attended an info session... Nor my co-worker, who's in her first semester. I just received the packed (like everyone inmy class) and turn in the physical and drug pannel by the deadline. I was then able to register to Nursing Science 110 &111. No fingerprinting for me only for last semester students .

That was two semesters ago. Thank God I'm not starting this semester I would hate to deal with all this drama so soon.

I emailed the coordinator of Health Sciences. ---------------
