Anyone Applying to Antelope Valley College RN program

U.S.A. California

I didn't see a thread on AVC nursing so I just made one for everyone. IS anyone applying to AVC nursing or in the program already? The person working at the department told me it would be like 3 semester waits. I'm expecting to get in around fall 2011 or spring 2012 since I turn in my application around October 2010. Anyone in the program already, would you please share your experience. Anyone who is about to get in the program, can you please tell me how long you've waited since the time you turn in the application?

Thanks everyone!!!

She works as CNA at at level 2 trauma hospital with me. I only see her when I float to her unit. We used to text a lot, but ever since she started she's always studying.

For those who recently have done the nursing program, what are the required immunizations that are needed? My doctor is very popular so I have to make appointments far in advance. I would rather try and get what is needed when I see him. He will give me whatever I need...but he needs to know soon what is required. If I wait till November when the packets are sent out, he wont be able to see me before the deadline.

Two doses of MMR & Varicella (chicken pox). The 3 series of Hep B. Tetorifice and Pertussis Booster ...and of course the flu shot.

Get them done now, so it's out of the way. Once you get the packet they'll ask for a 10 panel drug test and a full physical.

If you're attending Av college now it can be done at the care-a-van on Thursdays.

Do you HAVE to get the chicken pox vaccine if you already had the chicken pox? Like, its too late to block the chicken pox now. Lol. Same with the flu. Is the flu shot mandatory or just suggested? I know it obviously makes sense to get the shot considering there will be sick people around, but I have never received the flu shot in my life...and I am perfectly fine. Lol. Thanks for the list. I knew a few of those, but its good to see the others. Thanks.

They're are all required upon admission to the program. I had the chicken pox and when I try to the physical on my first admission to the program, I was asked for the shots, or blood work to show immunity.

The flu shot you need if, again you want to be admitted in the program.

I spoke someone in the nursing department yesterday who said I could petition the shots. She said that since I was over a certain age before the chicken pox vaccine even became available, I would not be required to have it. As for the flu shot, she said I could petition at my own risk. So I will do that. All the other required shots I am already up to date on. So I just need my drug screen and background check and I will be good to go.

The physician assistant wouldn't sign my physical without them. I hate that! I didn't want a flu shot.

Have you received the admission packet yet???

I received a letter stating to look out in my avc email for the admissions meeting. They will be giving out the information for what we need to do, when it needs to be done, and other information pertaining to the program. Its more of an informational meeting. From what I understand, the letters were sent to people 1-60 on the list (they are taking 40 in the program and then 20 waitlist people who may get in if others drop or cant be in the program). I received the letter last Monday.

They changed the whole procedure.

I am not sure how they did it last semester with your friend, but this is how I have always known it to be done. When I was on the list a couple years ago, they did the same thing (held an informational meeting). Even when I was on the waitlist for Radiology, it was the same. My friends mom is one of the instructors and as far as she knows, they have always done the informational meeting. Its in all of the health science majors. Maybe timing was just thrown off last semester with your friend and they didn't have time to do it. I don't know. Hopefully you receive your letter soon. All of my friends have received theirs.

When I first was accepted to the program, I got an admission packet with the date of the program orientation; A black page for the physical, where to purchase and official uniforms, and the background check.

What wer're getting at AVC e-mail account it looks like general info for now.
