Anyone Applying to Antelope Valley College RN program

U.S.A. California

I didn't see a thread on AVC nursing so I just made one for everyone. IS anyone applying to AVC nursing or in the program already? The person working at the department told me it would be like 3 semester waits. I'm expecting to get in around fall 2011 or spring 2012 since I turn in my application around October 2010. Anyone in the program already, would you please share your experience. Anyone who is about to get in the program, can you please tell me how long you've waited since the time you turn in the application?

Thanks everyone!!!

I want to know that because it looks like she apply around March or so. That means, I might not make it to the next class. :cautious:

You can email them and they will tell you (depending on your number) if you are in or not. If you are a borderline number then they might tell you to wait till November to find out. But if you are number 1-40, there is a very good chance you are in. If you are above 40, it might be questionable. Do you know your placement number?

I haven't called. All my co-workers were accepted within a semester wait. My friend applied last December, she got in by the Fall 2013.

Everyone I know bearly passed the TEAS (62%) they all got in. If you get bumped up is mostly due to people not entering the program and failing the TEAs. When I first applied, two years ago, only 2 LVNs out of the 10 passed the test.

3rd watch...are u doing the bridge program or generic? The only people I've heard of getting in with a 1 semester wait are those who are already lvn's or those doing the non-degree program. I haven't heard of any generic applicants getting in so quickly. It could be the medical background as well. I know a guy who got in in 1 semester because he was already medically trained in the emergency room for over 5 years. Good luck and hopefully u get in soon.

My friend and co-worker applied in December 2012 and she's in right now. Got acceped for the Fall 2013. We're generic program applicants.

wow really? Only a 1 semester wait?!

Yup! Just a semester wait. She's been so busy with all the studying required in the program :zombie:

I applied in July. How did she get so lucky?

My official application date was 9/7/2012...and she applied 3 months after me. My guess is that she knows somebody or something. I am an honor student and scored very high on my Teas and not even that was enough to bump me higher on the list. I even asked the Dean and she said no matter what your grades are, they take them 1 by 1 down the list. I am curious as to how she surpassed everyone on the list. Like I said, she must know someone within the program. I dunno! But the timing worked out perfect for me!

me either! Any tips on the Teas? What did you use to study?

I used the ATI Teas study book they suggested. It helps a lot. Pay close attention to the science section...particularly chemistry and life science. There is a large amount of the test that has to do with ionic bonds and chemical reactions. The anatomy and physiology parts were the easiest of the science. Many people say that the online practice tests are harder than the actual test, but that was not the case in my opinion. I scored perfect on the online tests and had no struggle. The actual Teas test, I had to really think about the answers. Overall I found the test pretty simple. I know the passing grade is very low and it shocks me how many people barely pass it. I cant imagine how anyone could fail it. It seems impossible to me, but obviously it happens. What I did as well was I took the practice test BEFORE I studied and read the book. That way I could assess how much I already knew and what I needed to focus on. I focused on my weak points and then retook the practice test (but different version) right before my actual test to see how I had improved. But really, focus on science...chemistry!

Thank you so much!
