Anyone applied for an Internship for Scott & White, June 2012?

The deadline is the last Friday in March. From now on I going to open my options because I am now aware competition is pretty fierce for jobs; for some reason I just assumed a job was going to just appear and float down in my hand like a feather, how naive. BTW I graduate this upcoming May. I am starting to get pretty freaked out about jobs now. And, have you all heard anything about Scott & White? Seton was my first choice, but I'm just making more room.

I am waiting to apply for the ICU internship. The postings are not up yet. ICU is my number 1 choice and then ED or PICU. I am an ADN graduating in May and will do my BSN in the fall. Seton is not longer hiring external ADNs per directive of CNO. St. David's is probably going to get the influx of new grads and it can also be hard tt get in there unless you work there. They love to hire within and many new grads will talk to CN and directors trying to get a job like in my ED.

Scott and white hires a lot more to their residencies then the other hospitals. I have heard many good things about it and am excited to apply to ICU.

Wow, going right back to school in the Fall? That's awesome. I am so ready to graduate I don't know if I could do it again (unless I had to of course). Btw...thanks for replying. I plan to do my internship in med-surg (1st choice) - peds, ER, then OB. And since you're familiar with this, I have to assume you're from Texas. I'm not...which is a huge disadvantage becase I can't really attend career fairs and personally talk to the "important hiring people." I've also been seeing some people saying they are unable to get jobs after graduating due to being graduate nurses. Hope everything works for the best. It's also cool to find another person graduating in May on here...what have you been using as resources for the NCLEX? and congrats to graudating this May.

I think Scott & White is now my first choice for now. thanks for all your help.

From what I have heard Scott and White is a very good hospital, its also teaching. Its an hour north of Austin depending on how fast you drive :). I know they have a tendency to hire a lot more nurses than Austin Hospitals. Ive known people who have worked there and they loved it and said nothing but good things of it.

I am using hurst in May then going to the library and using the NCLEX books there and my notes and stuff.

I'm currently in the ED internship at Scott and White. It's a GREAT hospital to work at, however the med-surg floors are suffering and have high turnover rates because of the high nurse to patient ratio 1:5/6. I also worked as a nurse tech there for a year and a half before being hired as an intern (which i think helped).

I applied for seton and got an interview with them, but just for the hospital that i got an interview with...they had over 300 applicants, interviewed 15, and chose 5 from that. A lot of people seem to overlook scott and white in Temple and go straight to the big cities (Austin), but to be honest...new nurses in Temple are getting paid a little bit more than what they're getting paid in Austin. I would recommend S&W, but i'm probably biased.

I heard they paid around 23 hour for new grads with shift differentials. Do you know what the differentials are? I am wanting to work weekend nights in the ICU and am trying to figure out what I could afford housing wise if I get the job. I have been watching the site everyday for the ICU listings. I have ED tech experience.

I also have heard a lot of great things about S&W. People in my class don't want to go to temple. They may change their mind since Seton is not hiring external ADNs any more.

Yeah, I 've heard about that...the over 300 applicants, 15 interviewed and 5 chosen from one of these posts on allnurses.com. And you were 1 of the 5, thats awesome. I've been looking on Seton's website and there has been no openings for RN I nurses for any of the Seton hospitals, only experienced nurses! Hopefully I can get an internship at S & W or just a position. And 1:5/6 nurse: patient ratio is high? What is the usual nurse: patient ratio? That's the usual N:P ratio here where I'm from, although I would like to have 4 at the most. And since you recommend S &W, why don't you work there? And as Jack asked, do you know the pay and shift differentials...I'd like to know that as well. And besides S&W Temple, what other specific hospitals would you recommend? thanks!

Does anyone know the exact start date of the June internship?

My school is one of the few that actually graduates in June, so Im thinking the internship may start before I even graduate.

I never said I got the job at Seton. I do work at Scott and White currently in the ED internship.

I know its in June, the exact date I am not sure. Last year based on posts was June 6th for ICU but varies with specialty
