I just got accepted to MCC Boswell priority placement!! I'm super excited!

Anyone else want to share their news?

I'm sooo anxious to recieve more info. Has anyone recieved anything other than their acceptance?

Haha.. You really should!!

great minds think alike. :p

we totally need to meet at orientation. It won't be hard to find out who i am with the "original" user name i picked lol. azstu25 you will for sure have to let us know how it goes. I wish we could start ready early. MurseNick still snowboarding?

probably...and how rude of him not to take us with haha :p

No..... Back from boarding yesterday.... one day trip.... but heres this story...

and trust me.... you DID NOT want to be there.....

So....

Every year i go boarding with friends i have NEVER driven..... I guess im lucky that way because driving up to snowbowl in the snow would be scary and tiring, especially the way back.

I went up with my bro and his wife, which it was her birthday yesterday. So i said, "hey, why dont i use my parents van and drive us up there" as long as someone drives home because i have a little history of falling asleep behind the wheel and crashing my friends car but thats besides the point.... -_-

So he said, "deal" i'll drive back if you drive up.

So on our way up there they both pass out, and we get half way there and stop by a mcdonalds because they were hungry. they eat and pass out again.

i get up to the mountain and park and we get our gear on and begin boarding.

We got up to the top of the mountain (black diamond) and all came down together. btw sarah is beginner/intermediate level.

so we go back up on our second run.

half way down, we're monitoring her and then i decided to just go down myself and haul butt... so i guess my bro wanted to also so he goes down with me. were boarding down a while then i stop and look back up to see where they are both at. my bro comes up right behind me and stops and we look up and no sign up her. we wait for about 5 minutes which in boarding is a long time lol

3 dudes come down and one guy says "i think one of your guys' wife is up there and shes hurt".......

we both get our gear off immediately and start running up the mountain,......

running running running... no sign...

then we see her heel toeing it down holding her arm. she gets to us and boam.... fell on her shoulder awkwardly and thinks she fractured something. full or tears she says shes done and we walk down the rest of the mountain to first aid to see what they can do. they say, yup. your done for the day.

so we walk upstairs to get some food and my bro starts feeling sick and nauseous now.... -_-

so now i have a hurt girl and a vomitting bro. so i said, "let's go home. im not riding up and down myself" lol

so of course because one is gimpy and the other is chuckin bombs i then am forced to drive home.... fallin asleep little by little i realized that splashing water onto my face every 15 minutes was the best thing ive ever discovered. oh and also sticking my head out the window. lol

so we get back. take her to urgent care and yes.... xrays show........

fracture in her shoulder!!! ahhhhhhhhhh

so her birthday was ruined.....

our trip was ruined...

i bought new goggles, jacket, mask to use for this trip.. all wasted. ($300)

and my lift ticket which they gave us $15 voucher for next ski trip. lol

SoOoO.... not the greatest snowboarding story ever... but very eventful and luckily she was hurt as bad as it could have been. few weeks and yes she'll be good to go!

so im planning to go up next week or the week after.... hahahahah

if anyone wants to dare the luck with a person (me) who swirves and falls asleep on the road... people around him fractures their bones... and vomitting going on.... be my guest. :p

ps. because we came home early... i bought a 1terabyte external hard drive and my bro hooked it up with 300+ movies and over 2000+ episodes of tv shows so there was SOME light at the end of the tunnel...... muhehehe

time to be lazy and watch some tunes..

oh and so i did 1 and 1/2 runs of boarding and i somehow feel sore...

i can't already be retiring from boarding... im too young... -_-

We have something in common...I once fell asleep at the wheel...I was 17 and ended up flipping my truck on the 101 and Thunderbird. Cops said they thought we were dead on the scene when they first rolled up...We were very lucky to have come out of that. Even though I was wearing my seat belt, I was still ejected like 3 lanes over and my boyfriend at the time was trapped underneath, they had to cut the roof of my truck off to get him out. We both came out of it with fairly minor injuries....He had a fractured collar bone and cuts and all that and I broke my nose and was cut up all over and ended up having a golfball size hole in my knee. Had to have a skin graft, ended up with MRSA in the process. Come to find out one of the surgeons I work with frequently is the one who did my surgery back then....all of his patients somehow end up with infections and on contact precautions...and he's scummy. No bueno. If only I had know back then.

Omg.... That's terrible. Glad everything worked out and you've made it this far! Congrats

I was wondering if any of the banner priority students having banner pay for your tuition? Know any info about it?

I'm assuming we dont but I wanted to know for sure.. We dont have to sign any kind of contract with bannet after we graduate do we? I mean I'm like 99% sure Im going to work for Banner anyways but in case I move out of state.

Lets go Eaglessssss/patriots! My chargers lost so gotta root for the legit qbs... Vick&Brady baby! !

If you are still going to be considered part time with banner while youre in school they will do $1000 worth of tuition reimbursement a year, $2000 if you are full time. We dont have to sign any commitment contracts with banner for the priority placement. If you had gotten into the nurse fellows program, it would be a different story, with that they used to pay all your tuition and books and required you to sign a commitment. But unfortunately they got rid of that program, last cohort for that program was in like July of last year.

Hm. I guess now with the economy being where its at itd be nice to have a guaranteed job right after school. I used to think I wouldn't like contracts so im not limited as to where I can work but that my friend graduated recently and shes already working at boswell med surg!

That's awesome! Ya Ive heard of a lot of new grads not being able to get jobs. That's why I'm still keeping my foot in the door at work with my current department, the main OR/Pre-Op/PACU and my old unit which is Tele, I'm fortunate enough to be able to pretty much pick up hours between all three departments when and if I need to without being pool and having to be floated everywhere. I was going to get a non-healthcare job while in school to reduce some stress but I don't wanna risk taking myself out of the system and not be able to get back in. Plus the impression I got from my director was that they would be willing to train me in Pre-Op/PACU when I'm done with school if there's an opening and if I want it.

Ugh, going to bed....long scary night. Went to the BF's familys' house for his birthday and come out to find that thier neighbors door had been busted in and the place got robbed. And it's like a super nice neighborhood, just goes to show it can happen anywhere. Then I'm pretty sure we were behind a drunk driver on the freeway when we were coming home. What a night.

OMG... what a bad night. Sheesh. Makes me sometimes want to move out of state to a quiter more "homey" area. lol

So I was working today and met a nurse in pacu that shared her school story with me. I try to approach friendly looking nurses to ask questions such as: where did you go to school? do you enjoy being a nurse? do you like this particular area? just to get a sense of what nurses are experiencing or have experienced.

So she graduated from Grand Canyon which she said took 19months for her BSN. Which cost her $45k? She's working as a nurse now, while continuing her education at Grand Canyon for a little under 3 year program for her master's to be a nurse practitioner! which cost another $38k. Don't quote me on these numbers these are what she gave me..... lol

BUT... is anyone else thinking about getting their msn? I'm like 80% sure once I finish at Boswell with my ADN then I'm going to continue and do the rn-bsn bridge at GCU or ASU which takes around a year? Then go for the MSN. I've thought about the CRNA but not sure if I'd enjoy it? I guess I'll research a bit more, and we have a long time to think about it. Just thought i'd share this story with ya'll. =)

I plan on doing the bridge to ASU for my BSN and then when I get two years of critical care under my belt, applying to MidWestern for thier CRNA program. They require two years of critical care before you can apply and luckily PACU is looked at as a critical care area.

45K for a BSN at GCU??? Geez ASU is only like 5K a semester and I think thier BSN program is 16 months, so 3ish semesters....so maybe like 15 or 20K but 45 seems a little ridiculous. I know the CRNA program at MidWestern is a 27 months full time 30-40K program.
