Hi, I was told by an acquaintance that interview invitations for spring 2011 BSN will handed out by september 20th.
THis does seem kind of early, but I haven't heard back from CSULB at all and so I was wondering when the interviews are. The CSULB lady has been very busy and hasn't gotten back to me.
Does anybody know if interview invitations have already been handed out for fall 2010 admissions?
Thanks!!!!
I dropped by today and they told me that 5 people failed the interview, 110 were interviewed total, and 10 super seniors are waiting approval from the VP to see if they can be let in. She also said that about half of those 10 seniors wont be admitted.
Ohh, do you know if those 5 people who failed the interview are doing re interviews?
or did they contacted the people who failed the interview already?
Well once transfers are admitted into CSULB, they're no longer "transfers" but CSULB students. A senior plus transfer is still the same thing as a senior plus... doesn't matter. Not all transfers finish in 2 years though. If this wasn't a problem, then the VP wouldn't need to approve it right?
hmm... they have many alternates to choose from if the 5 senior pluses don't get in... I think 20+ alternates so far. 110 got interviewed but there are also people like me who already completed the interview earlier this year, so we're not in the "110".
Yea the lady said that the VP will most likely only want to admit 5 of those 10 seniors but i dont know why. She also said because thats about 10 people already not going to get in since 5 failed the interview. there might not even be an alternate list she said b/c who knows anything could happen. I asked for my standing and she said she cant tell me b/c they dont even have a list yet made. Things could change after the VP signs off its approval. if anything, more people will be added to the list hopefully. She said around 2 weeks or more cause the signers were out this week or something like that. But than another lady in the office said its probably not going to be 2 weeks, maybe less. She was getting all mad at me because i was asking so many questions she couldnt answer haha Oh well, i dnt regret goint and beginnig for info lol I honestly dont thing the alternate list will be more than 10 people though since the new nursing buildings are made and that should mean more seats and rooms available right?
lbchick32- did you talk to the people in the office or the admissions coordinator herself?
Because the people in the office don't really know what's going on. The list IS already made. All of us applicants are on the computer with our statuses (unofficially). I specifically saw with my own eyes that there are 20 or more alternates.
Yes, the new nursing building does provide more space, but the admittance will remain at 90. Before the new nursing building, students had to sit on the floor of classrooms because of the tight space and limited seating. The new building is just to provide students with more seats and available space.
I'm a bit shocked that they are giving unofficial information to anyone and not giving anybody else any information. I'm rather bothered that they're showing another applicant a computer screen with everybody else's confidential information. The message I get is that if I hang around the office long enough and bother everyone long enough, than I may get the information I want. So by not calling and bothering them as told not to do, I'm really being left in the dark. I just can't believe they give this information, it doesn't give me much confidence in the integrity of the whole process.
Im wondering how they are going to decide who of the 5 senior/super seniors to be admitted. Do you guys think (once the vp gives the go-ahead to take half of the whole 10 seniors) that the admissions comittee will just take the top five with the highest scores?
Or the top five seniors/super seniors with the least amount of units (becuase they don't want to take seniors/superseniors in the first place)
OR would it make more sense to take the top five seniors that happen to be FROM csulb?
Which do you guys think will make more sense?
You'd think that they would want whoever will do the best, so that should mean the first one.
BUT at the same time, they are probably going to reject half of the seniors, who might even have higher scores than non-seniors...
If anybody happens to be by the admissions comittee office, would you mind asking how they think they will choose between those ten seniors to take just five?
Aerjas- Its not like they invited people to a computer screen showing or something. My eyes were just on my own status but the person next to my status just happened to have an alternate number. Plus its not even confidential information by the way... once the list is posted it will have your name, not student ID, so everyone and anyone will know who got into the program. They don't want to let everyone know now because statuses CAN change... therefore they don't want to get people's hopes up because it's still unofficial. I'm not even celebrating because I know statuses can change within the next two weeks. BTW you're not left in the dark because you're reading this thread, so atleast you have generous people on here who took the time to update you...
Okay I'm done updating on this thread. I hope everyone gets in and good luck!
I understand that, and I appreciate you updating on the thread. I am saying it is unprofessional on their behalf to be showing their computer screens to anyone when there aren't even official results yet. Until it is official it is confidential, I can't imagine the dean of the university being happy with admissions people giving unofficial results to anyone. It's the actual admissions that I'm not fond of when it comes to how they're running this. If they tell us it will be 2-3 weeks, than they need to publish the results in 2-3. If something changes that, such as this senior stuff, than they need to update everybody so everybody knows it will be another x amount of weeks. It should not be up to the students to track down the admission people and check the status of what is going on.
Remember that this is a blog... only a blog.. some information can be mis-information. So, now what? Go to see if the list is up and have them be mad that we are checking? Some people don't go to school M-F and some will make the drive only to find there is no list posted? with no notification? Something isn't right. Only time will tell how true some of this information is. I want to believe this information is good... but I'm not convinced. They should definitely have a better system of informing the applicants of the delay... hmmm.. has anyone looked today? or called?
I agree, I would like to believe that any information provided is correct. However, until it is officially coming from the admissions, directly to me - than we are in a way, left in the dark. There's so many conflicting things that have been posted that all we ask for is for admissions to be professional and keep all applicants informed.

lbchick, do you have any idea *why* half of the ten seniors won't be admitted? Like, will nursing take in the top half with the highest scores?
I know that csulb wants ppl to graduate in as few years as possible so they don't take up more space. So that would mean they want CSULB seniors to graduate already and not do nursing for three more years....
But what if you were a transfer student with senior standing coming in from another csu or even community college? Then you wouldn't take up space like a csulb senior would...you would just be one of the transfers and like most transfers just finish in 2 years...
I'm kinda regretting doing a minor in music just for fun at my old colllege...if I hadn't done that, I wouldn't be a super senior! Oh, and I should get in with the scores I have...just worried about not getting in b/c im a senior..but a transfer senior : (
