I've never been to college. I've graduated high school and I am a nationally certified Pharmacy Technician with 2 years of retail experience. I'm been looking around at different tech schools with a good and fair priced LPN program. How hard is the program exactly? I've never been to college so it makes me hesitant to just jump into a nursing career and spend a ton of money. It seems like a reasonable career with many advancement opportunities. I was hoping with the experience I have at my job now I would have some kind of advantage, but the knowledge of an LPN seems totally irrelevant. anybody here take a LPN course from a tech school in Connecticut? give me your thoughts and suggestions, thank you!

If I am not mistaken, Cheney Tech in Manchester offers a LPN program. I believe it is taught at the Asnuntuck CC in Enfield. Also one in Hartford, Lincoln Tech maybe....... Whatever you do do not go to Stone Academy unless you would like to pay a million dollars for your degree.

All the private LPN schools will run you $30K or more! I have several coworkers that went to Bullard-Haven's Tech for their LPN and they are great nurses. I went to a private LPN school as did several of my coworkers and we are just as good a nurse as the State Tech nurses.
Just know that the LPN jobs in CT have dried up significantly, few and far between and most want experience. Honestly there aren't many advancement opportunities. Most LPN's in CT are in the LTC setting, some in offices/clinics. If you really want advancement opportunities, more available jobs (then again ALL nursing positions in CT aren't nearly as abundent as they were 4 or 5 years ago) go for your RN.
I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer or dash your hopes/dreams, its just that many on AN have stated they weren't aware of the limited job opportunities of the LPN or of the job shortage.
If you decide to do the LPN route, make sure you find out about that schools NCLEX pass rate and make 100% sure they are accredited! You can check with the CT BON for accredited schools.
