Anybody else have this problem

I finally got a seat in the nursing program starting in the Fall of 2007, our nursing admin does all the registration for us manually so we just have to go and pay. But I get a call and they say I am on admin hold because I dont have my high school transcripts in. I have taken classes here before and have a degree at another school and also transcripts from a total of 4 different colleges. Why would they need them now, I have also been out of high school for 21 years. I am so frustrated I live in orlando FL and went to high school in Maryland. Yes, yes I did.

During the application process I sent in only my college transcripts. I did see on the requirements that I needed to send a high school transcript in but didn't, thinking it'd be clear to them that as I'm a college graduate I must have went to high school, right? It made perfect sense to me.

Well, guess what was in the letter I got from the nursing program...:imbar

I was told that because of the state law, for me to enter the R.N. program they required proof that I completed high school, and the only two things they'll take as proof is a high school transcript or GED diploma. The fact that I had a degree didn't count at all towards proving that. So I had to call my old high school in NY and get them to rush the transcript over before the deadline.

I admit, this one was entirely my fault as they said it plainly they needed my high school transcript and I ignored it--and it was a refresher lesson about my needing to follow instructions. That doesn't mean the experience wasn't frustrating...

Anyhow, perhaps this is the case with your school (that they need the transcript). I'd recommend faxing that transcript request to your old high school right away, since it'll probably take 2-3 weeks for them to get it sent out.

I'm sorry...that really stinks!!

I didn't have that exact same thing happen, but I know when I started school, I contacted my high-school and asked them to send my transcripts to my school. When I applied this past time, I called the day of the cut-off just to make sure all was good and they had everything and they said there was a note on my file that they didn't have my transcripts. I was ticked!! With my school, if you don't have everything there by the cutoff date, too bad! So, my mom ended up being able to run to my high-school (thank goodness I live in the same area) and then she ran my transcripts up to the college.

Sounds like your school may be willing to wait for your transcripts, no? Hopefully that is the case. Good luck!

Ohh if your dealing with baltimore county schools it will take 4-6 weeks. Trust me on this! I have dealt with that lady there that does the HS transcripts (its only one person), and you literally have to call every 2 weeks to see if she sent it out yet. Every school I've been to unless you have a Bachelors degree require you to send in your high school transcript. Did they not tell you that or was it not in your application to apply?

I submitted a BA transcript and they still wanted the high school one before I could even be considered for admission. I really thought they were kidding when I first read the letter.

This is just the red tape. I had problems getting accepted at one college because they kept saying they weren't receiving my high school transcripts after I had them sent to them 2 different times. I ended up getting a sealed copy picked up by someone (because I was living in another state), having them FedEx it to me and hand carrying it to the college admission office.

If you haven't done it already, get on the horn today, because it is Friday, and do what you have to do to get the high school transcript sent out to this college ASAP. Beg and plead to try to get them to send it out today if they'll do it.

I am having the same problem with my financial aid even though I received it right out of high school. The problem I have is that I went to a private Christian school that is no longer open. I have no idea how to obtain my transcripts. Any advice???

Verify to see if the college has them but the NURSING department doesn't.

Also, call the college you originally attended to see if they will send a certified copy to your school...most will take those from another collece directly.

Call the state Department of Education where this school was located. They should be able to tell you where the records for the school are being held. A college cannot just close and dispose of it's student records. There are state laws about the retention of the student records that must be obeyed. Your state Department of Education is the place to start getting information. Whichever agency in your state licenses colleges will probably know where those records are being kept.

Thanks so much! I will start making calls on Monday.

I forgot about that, thanks! That is important to remember: most schools' nursing departments want their own copies of the transcripts in addition to the one you send to the main records department.
