I was wondering if there were any young african american travel nurses and which assignement did u enjoy the most? On my first assignment and I'm not enjoying myself. I want to know the best places to go.
I'm a young male African American RN with about 17 mths exp in a level 1 trauma hospital (STICU). Been thinking about venturing out to do some travel nursing for about a yr before going to CRNA school. Somedays I think I am ready and then somedays I don't. I think that my problem is that I wish I had someone to at least do my first assignment with. I have heard good and bad things about travel nursing. I guess I'm going to have to jump in there and just do it.

Hey
You will definitely have to just jump in there and do it. I say you have enough experience to become a travel nurse. Once you do your first assignment you will have an idea of what to expect. Just keep using sites such as this one to be your resource. You will be ok. Feel free to ask me or others questions I am sure there are folks willing to give advice. Good Luck!

I am a young african american female (30). I feel you. I've been a nurse for over 2 years, working in a step down ICU for the last year. I wish I had someone to travel with too. I would love to start on the west coast and work my way back east. I think it would be a wonderful experience. I am not looking to do it for a long period of time, just one year would be good enough for me!
@ spoiled1 When I started I did it by myself. It wasn't't too bad but it is better when you have someone else. I recommend to try it out you will meet so many new people and maybe you will find people you can travel with. You never know a year could turn into longer. Again if you have questions feel free to email or message me.
HEY GUYS!!
I'm 27, female black travel nurse who has been to Cali and Texas. My big thing is go where your heart takes you! I've worked in the bay area loved it!! And San Diego area the hospital sucked, but the friends I made there will last a lifetime!! I personally like to go where I see other black ppl. I'm in Houston now and love it!!! I have been here since May and have never worked with this many black ppl in the medical field!!! It is very welcoming!!! My next assignment starts in Jan in Tampa, FL!! I'm very excited because one day i can see myself living there!! In my experiences being a young black nurse ppl try to challenge u but i'm ALWAYS up for a challenge!! Travel nursing is very rewarding!!!
It's good to see all the responses in this thread. I am a 30 year old AA female who has toyed with the idea of travel nursing for 3 years now. I always let fear of lonliness, missing my family, and other things keep me here. How did you all take the plunge? Also are there any AA NICU nurses out there? If so, where did you have the most fun? Which hospital did you like and or hate? Thanks and God bless.
Hi Jaxon,
Have you found an agency to work with yet? As I've never travelled, I can't really say but I've heard the suggestion made to stick with smaller agencies. Sometimes the bigger ones are harder to get in touch with, and I guess may not value you as much? Also if you are LinkedIn there are a TON of recruiters who are always looking for travel nurses. If you'd like PM me and I can try to round up all of their contact info for you. Lastly there is a book called "Hitting the Road" that I hear is a great read for anyone interested in travel nursing. Hopes this helps! Good luck!
