I'm an RN planning to return to nursing in the next few months. I would be great to have WKY support group here in factnet.

Looking forward to hearing from any and all KY nurses.

Hi, JinJer.

I'm close to Paducah. Graduated in '94, worked two years in med-surg and left nursing for 10 years. Planning a return, hopefully to Labor and Delivery, in early '07.

How was your first year? What area of nursing are you in?

Keep in touch. It would be fun and very helpful to round up a bunch of nurses from our area! I need all the support I can get.

First year has been great! I work at a small hospital in Trigg County-Cadiz, Ky. We have Med-Surg and ER kind of together (very small) I get to see a lot of things! Also work at JSMC in Hopkinsville on Ortho floor. So far I love both areas! I have been thinking of getting my BSN through McKendree College, they hold class one day a week at Lourdes in Paducah. Is that where you will work? Right now at our small hospital we (RN's) have to make transfers with the ambulance service until February when our ambulance service will be going ALS. Thank God! We go to Paducah a lot!

Take Care,

JinJer

I worked at Lourdes on med-surg for two years in the mid 90s. I'm hoping to return to nursing at WBH Labor and delivery. I'll take a nursing refresher course offered at PCC in a couple of weeks.

I'd like more info about the McKendree program. I've thought about it before, but doing the RN to BSN program at Murray seemed cheaper. I'll definitely Google McKendree. I'd like 2-3 years in L&D and then move on in education to leave the clinical area eventually.

I'm glad your first year has been a good one for you. What a blessing! Some of us weren't so lucky.

I, too, go to Paducah often (groan). I'm about 30 minutes out, but if I need clothes, make-up, a book, a movie or a good meal, well, I'm there!

Stay in touch.

Hi, I'm a Western Kentucky nurse and I also graduated from Mckendree's BSN program. I thought the program was great and I have a friend attending now who also likes it.

Hello, 206748. Nice to meet you.

I'm glad to hear that. I was on McKendree's website this morning and I can't find anything about classes being offered in the Paducah area. If anyone has any information on hand about offerings in the WKY area, I'd love to hear about it.

Hello, another West Ky nurse. I moved from Paducah to Murray about 5 years ago. was at Lourdes until about 8 months ago. Now doing home health for Baptist on a prn basis. I needed to be at home more than I needed to be driving all over the state!

Would like to find something a little more "scheduled" Maybe 1-2 shifts a week. JinJerEvans, how do you like Trigg and JSMC? Have thought about both of them. Could you give me some info on them?

I have thought about the RN to BSN at Murray, but need to wait until the last teenager is out of the house....

I did home health for Purchase District in Calloway/Marshall about 12 years ago. Even then, my mileage check could be over $250.00 a month. Man, did I get tired of driving!

Maybe we can all work on our BSNs together! I've got to get a year of L&D under my belt and save up some tuition money.

Hello everyone,I live in Madisonville,Kentucky and im thinking about part time travel nursing. If anyone has any info i would to love hear from you.

Has anybody worked at Jackson Purchase Medical Center?

Or Parkway Regional in Fulton?

I have worked at Trigg since 2002, when I was in nursing school. They were great about working around my schedule for school. I work nights, every 4th weekend so far and we are looking into some set scheduling now. Not a very big hospital, licensed for 25 beds and have a 3 bed ER, we all work together and for now we have to ride the bus for transfers that require ACLS protocol until February when the ambulance service goes ALS. I love it here, I feel like we are family. Pay is a little lower than some, although they have adjusted recently to be more competitive.

JSMC, I only work PRN and I run my butt off every time I am there. Not that I am a slouch at work, but sometimes the level of care of some patients really seem to require more than what scheduling has allowed. So far nice people, not all, but most. Great Supervisor on the floor I work on, very nice. Good PRN pay.

Let me know if you need more info.
