Hi,
I'm another Valencia nursing I student this semester. Just thought I would add my two cents. The program is definately very stressful. There are days that I love it and others that I'm completely frustrated. I think the professors are really nice. Each one has a strength, but they all really do care about helping you. My frustrations are the test questions are very different and hard to prepare for. I finished A&P as a 4.0 student. I'm now averaging a B and afraid I may even slip further. The test questions are "choose the best answer". Mrs. Stone described them as "two right answers and two wrong answers. But choosing the best right answer seperates the men from the boys" or something like that. Unfortunately I keep choosing the boy answers. It is very frustrating. The other students are all really great and very supportive to each other. You will definately make great friends and spend a lot of time together. I work at night and never have time to keep up with the reading. Maybe that is why I'm not doing as well. There is something to study for on a nightly basis, so plan your time wisely. Good luck! And see you in the practice room.
hey Audi02,
I have scheduled study time in my week days everyday after class. I will work weekends only 12hr shifts and my manager is pretty flexible...

Hi guys!
I am so excited for everyone! I have looked before for current students at VCC but never really found alot. Nice to know you guys are here!
I am also at Valencia West Campus. As soon as I take my final for A&P II and the grade posts I will put in my application. I hear that it Spring 09 did fill and I will be looking at Summer 09. But I will not know definately until I get my letter.
I was glad to see that schedule from 8-3 roughly. I have two little ones and have been kinda freaking out about what I will do, since I am here with no family! Does anyone know when/how often the clinicals are? I know from the orientation (not the one once you are in, but the one you had to go to to apply) that they are from 7am-7pm. But, how often do you have them? Also how far in advance tdo you know that schedule?
Like everyone else I am ecstatic, nervous, and pumped! This is a huge change in our lives. I know for me it is the turning and determining point in my life! Good luck to everyone and I look forward to chatting with you all in the future!
To the husband/wife duo...........you lucky ducks! Ready made friends.
The first semester there are just 3 days that you go out on clinical. Those days are just 7:30am - 3pm at an assisted living facility.
The second semester there is clinical either one 12 hour day or two 6 hours. Either 6:45am - 6:45pm or 6:45 am - 1pm.
You sign up for that just like you have signed up for classes in the past, on atlas "register" area. There is a selection of hospitals to choose from, many of them downtown, a couple in Winter Park, one in Altamonte, one in St. Cloud, and Florida East. Some have both time options some don't. We were able to register for second semester about halfway through first semester.
My schedule for second semester is Tues clinical 6:45am-6:45pm, Thurs school 8am - 2pm, Fri school 8am-10am.
I am still loving it and very excited each day. I go to the West Campus although they do over the first two semesters at the Osceola capmus as well. About the teachers, you have to keep in mind that if you want you could find a fault with each one. But it is important to remember that you are not there to be there friend but just to learn from them. That said, there are one or two that kinda get a bit on my nerves one way or another but I have to look past that. Each of them are very good at teaching. Just be open to them to allow them to do just that. For me I am not finding it more or less difficult then the prereqs. However they are completely differant. In the prereqs, you memorize and have definitive answers, but in nursing it is situatual questions and you decide the best answer. Sometimes you have very good reason for why you chose what you did but it may not be what they are looking for.
There is one overall grade for the semester.
I think it is going to be a great benefit that the two of you are going into this together. Ther are going to be many ways you'll be able to help one another out. Or maybe have shoulder close by to lean on. My best advice for now would be to get a NCLEX review book that has rationals and go over it by testing each other and discussing the correct and incorrect answers.
thanks for the tips, and wish you great success. I am starting in aug 08 and my question might be silly but how do you deal with all these books, what would you recommend? would hate to be unprepared! But maybe like everyone else i am overexited!

hey motyandproudofit,
thanks for all the info. my weak area is math and I have to work harder on that area than any other, but the math doesn't seem too difficult. I have to work no choice and it has to be at least 16-20hrs per week, the bills gotta get paid lol.
I figured there would be tons of skills to do and lots of practice involved and I also thought that I would be at class everyday until arounf 4pm or so for studt groups and so on....
all the best
