I work at Florida Hospital. So far so good :) I just found out Im expecting so its going to make the transition a little harder being pregnant...its stressful and emotional enough without pregnancy hormones added to it lol. I just started in May even though I graduated in December. I kept my old job as an LPN for a while and passed boards in March, then stayed a little longer as an RN for them. I was a little slow at getting into the hospital setting bc my dad passed away in February and I went home to TN to spend some time with my mom a couple of times since then. I finally took the step though :) The experience will be valuable.

I am wondering what is the Average GPA they accept at Valencia?
At Valencia you simply must get at least C's in the prereq's. It is not a point system or competiton sort of thing. Once you complete the prereq's and have all the requirements you apply and as long as everything checks out they mail you a letter stating which semester you will begin. It is currently approx. one year from application.
Hey Motyandproudofit i just wanted to know how's your first semester of nursing at VCC? Is it difficult ? Are the professors Nice? Are the other students nice? How would you compare the 1 semester course to a regular 4 class (12 credit) semester? Do you get one over-all grade each semester? lol ... im sorry for all the questions, we're just anxious and excited to start in spring thanks
I am still loving it and very excited each day. I go to the West Campus although they do over the first two semesters at the Osceola capmus as well. About the teachers, you have to keep in mind that if you want you could find a fault with each one. But it is important to remember that you are not there to be there friend but just to learn from them. That said, there are one or two that kinda get a bit on my nerves one way or another but I have to look past that. Each of them are very good at teaching. Just be open to them to allow them to do just that.
For me I am not finding it more or less difficult then the prereqs. However they are completely differant. In the prereqs, you memorize and have definitive answers, but in nursing it is situatual questions and you decide the best answer. Sometimes you have very good reason for why you chose what you did but it may not be what they are looking for.
There is one overall grade for the semester.
I think it is going to be a great benefit that the two of you are going into this together. Ther are going to be many ways you'll be able to help one another out. Or maybe have shoulder close by to lean on. My best advice for now would be to get a NCLEX review book that has rationals and go over it by testing each other and discussing the correct and incorrect answers.

thanks for the advice about buying the nclex review book. how is the math in nursing school and can you use a regular calculator? also do you work at all while in school? if so, how is that working out for you? i am getting quite anxious and excited all at the same time sorry for all the questions
hey luv4nursing what fl. hosp. location are you at and do you like it so far? i am also very sorry to hear about you dads passing.
The math is all about converting grams to miligrams and kilograms to pounds etc... An example would be: the doctor orders 1 gram of a med for a patient and the med comes in tablets that are 250mg each. How many do you give?
Yes you can use a calculator. They do not devote much class time to the whole math stuff. They do give test on the material and have tutoring session for math every Thursday but no regular class time for math.
I do work 20 hours a week and maybe could do more but very content at 20 hours a week. My schedule is:
Monday and Thursday 9am - 12noon
Tuesday and Wednesday 8am - 3pm
But keep in mind that you have to learn skills, like injections, suctioning, and enemas and then demonstrate your skills in lab. Therefore you need to practice and this is not stuff you practice so well at home so you need to allow time to stay after and practice in the lab. I pretty much plan to be at school Mon - Thurs 8 or 9 until 3pm.
