Are there any applicants to UNC Chapel Hill's BSN program for January 2008 admittance?
I still have not recieved any notifications for thier admissions decision and I was curious if any other applicants have received word? Or if they have any information on when we might expect to hear something?
Thanks!
I got in as well to the 4 term program:D!!!! I'm really excited and am from out of state and will be looking for an apartment down in the area. Anyone have any good suggestions of great areas or not so great areas I should not pursue very hard? Any and all recommendations welcomed. Anyone else going to the Nov. 12th orientation?
best,
Vidabug

To help find an apartment, you might want to look at the website below and click on "Map" under the UNC heading.

It might be helpful to be living in an apartment that is serviced by one of the bus routes that runs pretty frequently and/or late in the evening. Parking at UNC and around Chapel Hill is a real pain.
As far as apartments to avoid, Abbey Court would be one. Abbey Court has had problems with drug crimes, and I have heard of shootings there. Also I've been told to stay away from Laurel Ridge and Kingswood Apts. because they are older places and the appliances don't work very well. Although the prices are pretty low for this area, so if you'd be okay with that, it might be worth checking out. I know plenty of grad students/med students that live there.
I only visited a few places when I moved up here in May, and of those, the only one I liked was Timber Hollow, even though it is a bit small for the price. The location was nice, and it's in a safe and quiet area. Most of the residents were grad students with a few families and undergrads. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
My roommate from the summer moved into Poplar Place in August. That is in Carrboro, and most of the residents are grad students and families. She has a 1/1, and her apartment seemed huge. She pays $725/month though.
Congrats vidabug on your acceptance, I will be in the 6 term program, so maybe we will have a few courses together! Please let me know what you find as far as apartments and I will kepp you updated on my search as well! I know absolutely nothing about the Chapel Hill area, and I am a little nervous about what areas are "good" to live in! I hope that they discuss housing at the orientation next week! Anyway good luck, and see you in January!
I just wanted to let you all know that if you're in need of Heathcare Provider CPR certification, South Orange Rescue Squad offers free classes the first Tuesday of every third month. They have CPR classes the first Tuesday of every month actually, but they alternate among HCP, Heartsaver + AED, and Friends & Family. I took the Healthcare Provider class tonight and got my certification, so the next class will be offered in Feb. I don't know if UNC requires certification by the start of classes or just by the start of the first clinical course (which is second term), but this is definitely something to keep in mind for when you need recertification. I turned in my acceptance of the offer yesterday, and it looks like my page was updated shortly after that. The check status link is still down.
I'm taking statistics this semester. All my other prereqs were complete.
I didn't apply anywhere else, but I had backup application plans if I hadn't gotten in (Duke, Durham Tech, Wake Tech). Nobody else starts in January, so there wasn't anywhere else to apply for this semester.
I'm a Hepatitis B carrier, so I have to be assessed by a panel to make sure I'm okay to work with patients. I'm really nervous about that. I'm not going to get excited about the acceptance until I hear from them.
