Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi everyone--

Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?

Crossing my fingers...!

Just got confirmation...FINALLY!

Me too! Received it this morning. Phew!!!

What a small world... I do! Congratulations on getting an interview. What specialty are you going for? How long have you worked at BPC?

hey, sammypi! sorry for the delayed reply. i'm interviewing for the family NP track. i used to volunteer at WBFP as an MA. my name is Tony. Perhaps we know each other???? What is your name? Oh, and is anyone confused about the emails that were just sent out from the office of student affairs???? the first said for me to arrive on the 16th at 12:30, and the next email said CORRECTION arrive on the 23rd at 12:30. to make things even more confusing, my interview letter (snail mail) said the 16th at 8:30. ???????????

after calling the office, the person said to arrive on the 16th at 12:30. i don't know if i trust any of this and would be devastated if arrived at 12:30 only to find out i was supposed to be there at 8:30. anyone else in my shoes??????

PHEW! ok, just received a THIRD email telling me to arrive on the 16th at 12:30 and that the day would be ober by 4. seems like interview "day" has now turned into "interview half-day"

OH BOY, they are kind of a mess this year huh?

Mine are all scheduled for the 16th and I got the "clarifying" email saying to arrive @ 8:30.

Good luck with all this confusion!

Uhh....i got a message like this:

"Apparently there has been some confusion. Those receiving this email are scheduled for interview on Friday, Jan. 23 in the AFTERNOON session. Beginning at 12:30 in Room S-214 in the Medical Sciences building and ending no later than Four PM."

Does that mean ALL of us (16th and 23rd) will be interviewing at 12:30?????

I spoke with someone on the phone at UCSF and he said they are doing four sets of interviews: 1/16 AM, 1/16 PM, 1/23 AM, and 1/23 PM. I am taking his word for it and showing up by 12:30 and really hoping I'm not supposed to be there in the AM. Hopefully other people will reply to this thread and confirm this.

That seems to be correct. Mine specifically says "morning session".

I emailed him to confirm. I will be interviewing on the 23rd in the afternoon. I'm wondering if I should go to work that day since I only work about 9 floors up from where the room is. hehehe

But probably not. I might not get any work done because I'll be anxious to get it over...

Specializes in Admitted to Psych NP/CNS in Geriatrics.

Well good afternoon all you MEPN hopefuls. Along with Star77, I have just begun the second half of the MEPN year. I am one of two current students in the Integrated ANP/Psych CNS track. Seems like psych is not one of the favorite specialties, as is FNP, CNW and ACNP. There are a few of us who have declared some form of psych intention though, but only two of us in the integrated track.

It seems like the nursing dept has changed the layout of interview days quite a bit. I rather liked the entire day set up with a later interview with a nurse manager at one of SF DPH's public health clinics. For the specialty interview, I met with someone in the psych dept, and was fortunate to have a faculty member who conducted the interview more like a "chat" than an interview. Gotta like us psych folks for using our skills to make one feel at ease in an otherwise stressful situation.

I wish you all good luck having gotten this far and with your upcoming interview days. I second Star77's run down of how best to take care of yourself. Make sure to get good sleep, as best you can, the night before. Dress comfortably, but professionally. Come with your own questions you want to ask about the program in general and your chosen specialty. We were fortunate to be fed both a buffet breakfast of fruit, muffins, juices and coffee, and a box lunch when we were broken down into small groups to meet with a current MEPN. I hope you get the chance to talk to a current student, as that was helpful to get a closeup look at what to expect should you get in. Due to the current economic state we are in, there may be some cutbacks in what the dept. does, ie: buffet, lunch, etc., so that could be a reason why there have been some consolidations.

Once again, Good Luck for making it this far.

Is anyone else interviewing the morning of the 23rd?

I'm getting more and more nervous every day.

Good luck to those of you interviewing this Friday!

Morning of the 23rd, here! I just got the email with extra info yesterday.

Also: where are folks staying? I don't know the city at all and would like to be able to walk to UCSF in the morning...
