Any UAB NP students/graduates?

Published

I am considering applying to UAB online either ANP or ACNP and was wondering if anyone could comment on the program? How do they like it? How much time committed per week? Full or part-time? Is the faculty readily available to help/answer questions? Also, I'm having a difficult time deciding between ANP or ACNP. Is it true that if you are ACNP you can sit for the ANP test as well? I'm leaning towards ANP, but have 8+ years in SICU, so thinking ACNP would be better suiting. However, I'm thinking about post-graduation and finding a job and having reasonable hours with no call. Anyone have any thoughts?

Is anyone doing the RN-BSN-MSN portion at UAB? I am planning to apply in early 2012, just wanted to know how hard it is to get in? Long term, I am hoping to do the FNP program.

Just about to finish it up, awaiting acceptance/denial for continuing my degree. It was not to bad getting in, my adviser practically told me on the spot whether I was in or not and I still had 2 more classes to do. I would not take Informatics/Research with patho or assessment. Very difficult class, over 1/2 have dropped for this semester already. I started last fall 10, basically part time, could do in three, but with those last 2 classes, did not make it feasible. I also took 10 hours of approved grad classes (Adv Patho, Roles, and now Adv Assess and Diag) but it does not guarantee admission to the MSN tracks.

The only thing it does, per my adviser, puts you ahead somewhat and even more so if you a resident of the state than those from other states.

I have enjoyed the classes, and they accepted some of my "old" stuff from 82-85, well bascially all of it. They even have a Statistics class, hidden one, for just nurses that is online totally and can finish in a few weeks, if needed. They will give you the CRN # if you need the class.

I have been nothing but impressed with the program, and should have done this years ago when living in LA and gone to LSU, but the bridge programs were way different then.

If you want more info, feel free to email me at [email protected]. I know, no email addy should be given out, but this is one I made just internet stuff, but do check it.

Hey! I am new here! Just got my acceptance letter for Spring 2012!! Wanted to know if anyone else lurking around here will be starting then?

Me too! I start the PMHNP track Spring 2012 part time.

I also was accepted Spring 2012 ANP/GNP program at UAB. So excited !! This day has been long coming !

It is exciting, but scary also. I am working on 614 Adv Assess/Diag as I read this. #2 SOAP note. I have soo much to do for the next 6 weeks that are left in this semester..then i can slow down some!, well maybe a little...2 classes better than 3. At least only 1 has another paper due (Issues).

melrnbcAL,

I think I had some classes with you last year(recognized your last name on the email address). Health Assessment class where we had to do that video last fall. You were cracking me up talking about your husband who is also a nurse. Have you already graduated the BSN portion ? I graduate in December and I also spaced out my RN/BSN/MSN plan of study over 4 semesters. Could not do it less than that with kids and work.

That is me..LOL. Yes, I am about to grad with BSN. I am currently taking Adv Assessment/Diag. Have another video to do..first thing out of his mouth was..do I have to do that again? I plan on going a little slower, finish up Dec 2013. Need a mental health break...LOL

I understand! I am supposed to finish up in Dec.2013 also. So you did not have to go to campus for the class your taking now? We were the last undergraduate class for that Health Assess. class to do video. A friend's daughter took it this semester and had to go to B'hm for the physical assessment portion. Anyway, I am going to email you later. I have a few questions about this acceptance package we got for graduate school.

hi! i just got into the adult NP program starting spring 2012. i am out of state, in atlanta, and just wanted some insight on things. do yall have bsn yet or still working on it?? do yall know when financial aid stuff is due?? i'm nervous about hearing all this stuff about ppl not hearing from advisors, etc.

I am graduating with BSN in Dec. The getting in contact with my advisor in the BSN program @ UAB has never been a problem!I hope it will not be a problem in the graduate program. I already have to change my POS because some of the classes listed for spring Im taking now and will have out of the way. Congratulations on your acceptance!

thanks so much!!! which classes are you taking in the spring?
