Hey guys! Just accepted my first travel assignment, which starts on August 18th. This is a 26-week assignment and unfortunately keeps me in Michigan through February. However, afterwards I'll be looking to travel to the West coast/Pac NW. I'm thinking Portland, OR or somewhere in northern CA assuming there are contracts available in those areas at that point in time.

I'd be really interested to hear from other gay travelers regarding things like making friends on travel assignments. I'm not one to wander into a bar by myself and I'm not a huge fan of the "social" apps out there.

I'd also be interested in future travel buddies. I'd love to hear back from some of the experienced travelers out there. Quitting my full-time job in order to pursue travel nursing has been an exciting, but scary experience! Looking forward to hearing from some of you!

I am not gay, but I would love to hangout :).

Hi Raindrop! Are you currently traveling? I'm a pretty outgoing guy and love meeting new people, gay or straight.

If you are currently traveling, where at and how have you liked traveling?

Hello B, I am in the boring Midwest on an assignment that is within driving distance to my house. This is my first travel addignment in 3 years. I am very happy to be out of the politics and general BS that comes with being a staff nurse. My contract ends in a few weeks and as much as I love my coworkers and the hospital, I dont think I will extend. I was going to take a new assignment in Texas, but I am leaning more towards Philly for now. However, there is a hospital close to me that is hiring travelers. If they are still needing travelers at the beginning of Sept, I may go with them for 8 weeks or so. The reason being, they have Epic and do not require travelers to have Epic experience. Just another thing to add to my resume. I also plan on doing california and Oregan in the future. I heard the Cali license is expensive, so I am holding off until after my Italy vaca in October :)

Specializes in ICU, IR, PACU, CCRN, NE-BC.

Hopefully I will be in California in October currently in New Hampshire. Lot of places are gay friendly here surprisingly

I'm a gay traveler and its been great so far! Dallas was surprisingly gay friendly and i made a lot of good friends. I just started my new assignment in San Diego and so far so good! I will prob keep extending here and have my first snowless winter! If you guys are ever in the area let me know!

Glad to hear feedback from some other travelers out there, especially with being a first-time traveler. Well, I guess I should say a first-time NURSE traveler. I figured it probably isn't too hard to make friends on the road. It's just the thought of leaving life-long friends that's getting to me I think. But, it's all part of the adventure. It'd be cool to run into some of you on the road at some point in the future. There are currently lots of positions for my specialty in southern CA, so if that's still the case in February, that's probably where I'll end up. Going through the long process of applying for my CA license now...Fun stuff!!!

Hey are you still traveling? If so, do you have any advice? I'm in the beginning steps of starting!
