Hello all,
I am currently in my MSN-FNP program at Chamberlain. I love the program, honestly cannot say enough great things about it. I am finishing classes 4 and 5 and in January will begin classes 6 and 7 and then will be on to pathophysiology and Pham and then the online advanced assessment then clinical, so I am getting there. Here is my concern.... these first few classes are helpful in some ways, learning about theory and frameworks, lots of papers lots of APA format and learning about research and how to conduct research, review literature etc. and I understand the importance of this. However, I'm worried that the short time I have in clinical I will not be prepared to be an NP. I am nervous that I am not learning what I need to know to be an NP now! Is it just me or does any one else or has anyone else felt this way during the first half of their program? I am just concerned about learning such a LARGE volume of information in such a short time frame! Any thoughts?......

I am in the same program. :) Two more classes until I am in the FNP-specific coursework! I was going to double up in the January session, but I decided to not torture myself like that.
Anyway, I figure that I will get out of clinical what I put into it. I am going to work hard to learn as much as I can, and we have 650 hours of clinical time ahead of us. And we're already nurses, which is a big advantage. :) We can do it!
Thanks Pixie, good to see a fellow student. How are you liking the program? From what I an seeing on here it is normal to feel a little insecure in a new role, so I just need to give it time and give it my all to be the best I can be in that role! I really like the program so far. What are your January classes? Im in epidemiology and advanced role. Excited to finally finish my last two classes before pharm and patho! Good luck, keep in touch and thanks for the encouragement, I guess we all need that every now and again.
I should have been taking my last two core courses in January, but I am only doing 506 in January, then 512 in March. After that I'll be on to epidemiology.
I'll message you - there is a fabulous and supportive Facebook group for Chamberlain FNP students. :) You won't be able to respond to a private message until you have one more post here (you need 15), but you should be able to read it.
I did the RN-to-BSN at Chamberlain and loved it. I went elsewhere and came within a capstone of an MSN in Informatics, but I can't complete that where I am right now (it's my facility, not the school), so it's on the back burner. I might complete it later, we'll see. I was able to transfer a couple of classes into Chamberlain, which was awesome. I was a tad annoyed to not get credit for 512 considering I almost completed an entire informatics degree, but whatever. Moving forward. :)
Thanks Pixie, I will check it out. Yea it seems you should have gotten credit for the informatics class. These classes are flying by I can hardly believe I'm almost to patho and pharm. I may have already joined the Facebook group yesterday after I saw someone had posted it in one of the forums I came across but I will double check the site. Thanks for the help!

Hi guys!!
I am also in the FNP track at Chamberlain and will be taking classes 6 and 7 in January as well! I agree that it's a lot of info crammed into 8 weeks...but if you think about it, It's almost set up like regular brick and mortar schools, except you are focusing on one subject the first half of the semester (or 2 if you double like we are) and then another class for the second half of the semester. The standard is for all schools to have around 650 clinical hours, so we are not being shorted there. I agree it can be daunting but if we can torture ourselves with double the coursework I'm sure we can get through this! I have friends that attend TWU and they were also told that not all skills may be reviewed or taught (for example suturing and spinal taps). They (like us) were told to find workshops and clinics to perfect these skills.
I wonder if we have or have been in the same classes at all so far?
athomas, we may have been in several classes along the way and not known! I didn't really start getting involved in this forum until recently. I did join in May once I was waiting to hear about my acceptance into the program for July but once I got in and got started its been busy and haven't really gotten back on here until recently. I joined the FB group and that has been very informative and helpful. What classes are you taking in Jan? I'm in epidemiology and advanced role. Its flying by that's for sure, I think that's why I started getting a little nervous, its all happening so fast!
I was thinking the same thing about multiple classes - my husband just finished a 4.0 semester with cell biology, biochemistry, virology, and a required state history class. However, school is his only job! Lol.
Pixie,
Wow those sound like very challenging courses! I suppose having school as your focus without having to work helps, but even so, wow that's impressive, good job! You both have your hands full sounds like. Plus I see your a medic also? My husband is a medic, works for our local EMS 911 service and a transport job on the side to supplement income since I dropped hours for school. I just work at a cardiac ICU for now, but am interviewing at a college in INDY for a teaching position two days a week. The hours are better and two days a week are about all I can do!
