Any 5th or 6th time test takers out there

Published

I said I wouldn't start a thread, but after reading everyone elses stories. I know I am not in this alone.

I am so down and out thinking that I have failed Nclex-Rn 5 times. My self-esteem level is -0. I am so so HAPPY for everyone that has passed, but I keep saying WHY CAN'T THAT BE ME!!!! I have tried everything from A-Z and nothing seems to help!!! What am I doing wrong??? Other than my anxiety level is 1000% when I set down to take the test.

I will be taking the test again in March. Please pray for me that the Lord will give me the strength to pass this test the sixth and final time!!

Hey is there anyone else out there that has failed the test five or more times!!!!

Yes, Iwannabarn- Have you been just doing questions, or have you felt differently in changing your stragey towards the NCLEX. I to will be taking this, well just say for the too (manyth)time, LOL I am trying to keep my sanity through all of this. I know so much about this test, you would think between, the type of questions, the computer itself and the calmness we have adapted through, the "light bulb would come on" and the "connect the dots" by now would have kicked in BUT there is still something that is lacking. I do believe all of the books and reviews I have taken are with the first time and yes, even the second time test takers are helping.

BUT for the ones like us, I feel like there should be another level of questions we need to be looking at or trying to achive. Am I taking the wrong approch at this, Maybe, I am open to suggestions. I am currently doing the Suzanne's approch, BUT still feel I should feel differently, maybe it will come in time.

Maybe it's just gun shy, or not trusting yourself when you feel you are ready, who knows. All I know I am not giving up and no one else should either.

I graduated many moons ago and I passed boards first time around but I truly believe that only happened because I took The Helen Feuer nursing Review. This review tied things together for me that I never made sense throughout Nursing school. It also taught us what kind of answers the board was looking for. Anyway Don't give up!!! I've met many great great Nurses over the years who failed several times before they finally passed and I've met nurses that passed their first time and they sucked as nurses. So don't let it get you down. It not a reflection of what kind of nurse you are. Hell when I took boards I was convinced the people who came up with those questons were on drugs

AlexisRN45- Thank you for note and I do truly believe my time is coming. And YES, I have asked myself with a few Nurses

How in the hell, they got their license, BUT for now--They have theirs and I do not. Will be sitting for the boards in a few months, need to get a little more confidence behind me.

Thank you again.

Spitfire02 Hey we can do this and we WANT give up!!!! I am doing a little bit of everything this time!!! I hired a tutor and I go to him during the day...then I come home and do questions....I am trying to learn how to keep my anxiety level down and pace myself....My tutor says I know the content and that it must be that I am not pacing myself and reading the questions right and my anxiety level also goes out the roof!!! Well I have tried everything from A-Z and I PRAY this helps this time!!! My Husband is VERY supportive of me and HE keeps pushing me to follow my dream!!!

I WANT GIVE UP!!!!!:coollook:

Good Luck to all of you. Relax, take deep breaths and tell yourself "I can do this"

Hi all, I am so sorry you are going through this, I read through your posts and you all have tried so many different things. I strongly urge all of you to take a look at suzannes plan, I was so convinced I would be the one to take the test 6 or 7 times, but I did suzannes plan, which is just wonderful and I passed my second time. I know you guys don't probably want to hear about the people who passed, but I could not have done it without this plan, it is a god send and I suggest everyone give it a try. Good luck to all of you, keep your heads up high. When I failed the first time, my grandpa (who is a lawyer) told me that some of the best lawyers have to take the bar many many times before they pass. So don't let this test define you as a nurse, it is an obstacle that you will get over!!!! Good luck everybody.

PLEASE don't give up!!!! We have worked to HARD to give up!!! I am taking my test again for the sixth time (I PRAY THE LAST TIME) but if not I will pick up my lip and dry my tears and try angain!!!

WE CAN AND WILL PASS THIS TEST!!!!!

wow,,,thank you for your inspiring words...reading this makes me smile..i hope i have the same confidence like you,,,

I will be taking it for my 3rd time. we WILL pass. this is OUR YEAR.:heartbeat:redbeathe:redpinkhe:nurse::icon_roll

i have some suggestions to make. first of all i want to say how much i admire everyone's tenacity....it takes guts to kep trying. by far it would have been way easier to just find another career, but you all have stuck this out and that is quite impressive.

for those of you whom english is a 2nd language; have you taken an english as a 2nd language course or enrolled in a medical terminology class? people educated outside the us and/or who speak another language as thier primary language have a harder time w/ the nclex...thier first time pass rate is only about 55% compared to 85% for american educated nurses. in this regard a class on the structure of the english language (which is notoriously dificult for non-native speakers) would be incredibly helpful. i've noticed in some of the previous posts that grammatically the structure of sentences was incorrect.....this could reflect an inability to correctly interpret the nclex questions. if you don't understand the question, how can you answer it? just a thought.

also, one of the major predictors of success on the nclex is the number of practice questions you have done. i found the saunder's review cd to be very helpful. it has numerous formats you can choose from to practice. i especially liked the "study" format b/c you can get immediate feedback on rationales. if you have a pda get nclex review software for it, that way you can do questions while waiting on the bus, in line at the bank, anywhere you have a few extra minutes.

practice delegation of duties questions, know which patient to see first out of numerous ill patients--and know why, be familier with all of the infections control precedures--when to put a gown on vs. just gloves, etc. if you have access to lehne's pharmacology for nurses...read the major catagories for each type of drug. lehne's book is amazing, it's interesting and fun to read.

that's about all the advice i have. best of luck to you all.
