Just wondering if there’s any LVNs here from Texas and where you work. I recently relocated and went on my first interview and was turned away instantly because I was a new grad. So just wondering where are some places you can where here ? thanks !

Nursing homes are ALWAYS needing staffing. They often hire new grads.

Honestly that’s what I thought but to my surprise I went on an interview and was instantly turned away without the chance to Even speak because I was a new grad and training me was not in their “budget”.
Also check out Skilled/Rehab facilities. They use mostly LVNs.

Hi Amandalee1210! Welcome to Texas. From my Houston experience, the new LVN grads that get hired immediately are ones that are already employed within a clinic / healthcare system, and they have certification such as CNA, Med Aide, Phlebotomy, OTA, etc. Also keep in mind that brand new grads are competing against experienced LVNS who may be applying for the same position; so employers may not feel the need to train. Have you tried Home Health? I know a few Home Health companies that hire brand new LVNs and pay 20-25+ but offer no benefits. You could always get foot in the door with Home Health and then reapply a year for a healthcare system or your choice SNF. Other option is to negotiate less in pay to get the opportunity. Employers will take that into consideration because profitable for them. I hope you find what you are looking for and I wish you luck! ?

I start out 5 years ago at a LTC for 7 months just to get experience. I than transferred to Kelsey Seybold, stayed their most of my carreer. I am now at Memorial Hermann in the clinic but they do hire at the hospital. Pay is between $21-25 an hour in Houston. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice! I’m so scared to do Home care as a new grad the thought of me being completely alone scares me. But I’ve gotten more interviews so hopefully someone comes up :)!

My daughter is a new grad in Texas. A pediatric home health care facility visited her school and said they hire new LVN graduates (GVN's) and train them. She graduated from Blinn College. This facility has locations all over Texas, including Dallas. I can't recall the name of the facility, but you could call the nursing department there or do some google searches. Best of Luck!!!

It's difficult to get a job as a new grad. I remember it well. It took me a couple of months before I got hired by a hospice staffing agency. Once you get a little experience it becomes much easier to find a job. I see that you posted back in May. I haven't read through the comments yet, but I hope you have been hired by now. ?
