Any other SAC nursing students? (How long did it take?)

apparently like the other 400+ people before me on the waiting list at Santa Ana College:cry:, I'm wondering how long did it take to get in?

I did pretty good in my pre-reqs:

Eng 101, A

Micro (Health), B

Anatomy, A

Phsy, A

this would give my 35 pts on their ranking system.

my overall GPA was about 3.2 at the time of my application.

no prior certs (LVN, EMT).

does/did anyone else have grades similar to these? and if so, how long did it take you?

the letter that I rec'd stated was vague in regards to my expected wait time, which I'm sure is what they were going after.

I've was told by a counselor @ SAC before that they cannot truly have an accurate idea of exactly how many people are ahead of me as they encounter a number of individuals that are on their list, but for one reason or another will no longer attend once their names come up (people move out of state, go to another college, change majors, etc).

in addition I wonder how many of those names ahead of me are those of people with LVNs, who will be entering on the 3rd semester of the program.

and furthermore, has anyone had to take that TEAS test yet?

was that thing intense at all? are their any study guides you can recommend?

Did your letter say what number in line you are? If so, how long ago did you turn your 'request for transcript eval' for the nursing program? I turned in my stuff almost a month ago and haven't received a response yet from Ms. Lewis or the nursing program as I was told.

But to answer your question, the young lady in Ms. Lewis' office told me the average wait is 4 semesters.

I have a similar overall GPA (and all I need to graduate with the ADN is the nursing courses, everything else is done) but my ranking isn't as good as yours thanks to Cs in A&P (combo course from out of state). Other licenses or certifications don't matter (I have one as a CA midwife) nor does health care job experiences... believe me I tried to milk it any way I could ;)

I am going to wait to take it until instructed by whatever school I get into because they all have different guidelines for it as in when and how many times you can take it. The strange woman who did the orientation session I went to said basically if you had to take it more than twice, you may as well hang it up and look for something else to do with your life. Sheesh.

Oh and there are test guides at atitesting.com I believe.

I turned in my paperwork at the beginning of Feb. I'm now at #465. oh, happy day!

the letter I did receive also stated the average was about 4 semesters or so but then went on to state that 'better grades' on the pre-reqs will result in lesser wait time.

the letter you get is just a form letter, a generic letter generated with your number hand-written in. I would not be surprised in the least that whatever this letter states in regard to one's wait time is inaccurate.

I've also heard that the average wait time is 4 semesters, but not from people who have already been admitted into the program.

I dunno, being the ever-pessimist I would imagine not having all As would mean a few extra semesters waiting, at least.

I called to ask the status of my transcript evaluation today. It has been more than 4 weeks since I turned in the paperwork which indicated I should have received my waiting list number by now.

I am SO FRUSTRATED :banghead: I learned that my transcripts were not on file as far as this counselor could tell so I called the admissions office to see what was up and was told they were indeed not on file yet, "Your admissions counselor is on vacation, let me see who is handling your file..." When the person returned she said my 4 transcripts are sitting, opened, on her desk. She went on vacation LAST MONTH. She said they only expedite for nursing student applicants when it is written on the envelope-- which it was but the woman threw the envelope away when she went on vacation. I am told they will work on them today...

Then I called back the nursing application counselor and was told it didn't matter after all because she hasn't processed anyone who turned in paperwork for the month of June anyway (she's been "so busy").

This makes TWICE they have lost my transcripts. I turned what I had to date back in January and again in June. I guess it doesn't matter really since I will be on the waiting list there until I am 79 years old but it gives me pause with regard to dealing with administrations in the future.

ouch! yeah, I also ran into a little trouble with those people multiple times but nothing nearly as bad as you. Not that it really matters, but I technically could have graduated a semester early if it hadn't been for one counselor. now what does that teach us? hmmm....

I called the office of Gloria Lewis one time towards the end of the Fall 07 semester to get info about putting my name on the list. I was told by someone who answered (a guy) that they were so backed up that I couldn't even schedule an appointment to get my name on the list until the first week of February the following year. why I was told this I have no idea - you don't need to make appointment to meet with anyone. you simply fill out a form and place it in an "In Box" to be processed.

guess they hire anybody.

I entered the SAC wait list July 2007 and was placed at #396. Last April I received an update letter and I am currently below #280. According to the letter, there should be an update to the wait list in October. You should check the SAC website for the entry list. Yes, its a long process, but well worth the wait. Good luck and congrats...:)

Can you provide a link? I didn't know the "list" was posted online. Thanks :)

The letter from Santa Ana College says to check the website in October for an updated entry list. It says to go to www.sac.edu, click SAC A-Z and then go to nursing. They said the link will be added that month. Hope this helps...:coollook:

Hi I was wondering if your number 280, are you an LVN or are you going straight into the RN program at Santa Ana college. Im an LVN and its been 2 months and I still haven't received any responses of which number I am on the entry list. Thanks

Vargas, if I were you I'd call the 'graduation specialist' in the counseling department. If you turned in your paperwork 2 months ago at the very least you should have some acknowledgement that your prereqs and LVN education/license has been reviewed. I have that much and am still waiting on my number from the nursing department. I turned my stuff in the first week of June and just got my letter of acknowledgement last week. If I don't get it this week I am going to call next week.

When I had my pre-reqs and electives revieved by Ms. Lewis last July 2007 she said it would be a few months until I would receive an entry list letter from SAC. I didn't get a letter until 3 months later. I know how nerve racking it is to wait for that number. :banghead:

Hang in there! :wink2:

As of today I still hadn't received my letter from the nursing program acknowledging my place in line so I called. I am number 635 of more than 700 now. Good grief!
