If you're willing to drive anywhere in Ventura County, Simi Valley Adult Education offers an LVN program that is significantly cheaper than Career Care Institute. Click on the link below and scroll down the page to see the requirements.

Practical Nurse/LVN (Vocational Nurse) (4.4260)(3334)(065512): Prerequisites: (Completion of prerequisites is not necessary to begin application process) 18 years or older, U.S. high school diploma, G.E.D. (English version) or U.S. college degree; Current California CNA card; Current American Heart Association CPR card for Healthcare Provider or American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Responder; successful completion of a medical terminology course.

Selection into a program is based upon a point system. Candidates earn points from three areas: an interview, an essay, and an ability to follow written/oral directions. Candidates must achieve a minimum percentage of the overall points in order to be considered as an alternate. Candidates achieving less than the required minimum overall points are ineligible for this program year.

SO you posted this in June 2010, any current information that you could share on finding a school or job opportunities after graduation. I am just getting started I have my A.S. Degree but have been out of school for some time 15+ years and so heard that I have to take my core of courses again :uhoh3: ugh but willing to do it all over again. I just have no idea if I should do the Ventura CC to obtain LVN and then bridge over to RN or just go to tech school in ventura (but which one has the best pass rates and a good reputation overall) so much to think about but not sure where to begin but want to begin now! Any help would be appreciated:nurse:

ChrisQ are you still looking for an LVN program? I live in Ventura County and I recently graduated from a private school in Canoga Park. If you want any information on the school let me know.

Sweetmoni15- Im looking for a LVN school in/around vta county.Which one is canoga park did you go to, if you don't mind me asking?

Chloe2 I went to California Career College. When I started there the tuition was $19,000. I was going to go to a college in Ventura but their tuition was $29,000. If you would like more info you can email me at sweetnurse55@com

Hi ChrisQ,

I am in your exact same prediciment. I was curious what you decided. I am on the LVN waitlist, but not sure if I want to go down that path. I was curious what you decided and any tips you might be able to share with me.

I hope you get this email.

Talk to Ventura college, they have no wait list for the RN program, just have your prereques finished. I went to an LVN school in Westlake. Awesome instructors. They have a really nice clinical site at a surgical hospital that is amazing. Their NCLEX pass rate is about 90%.

But talk to Ventura, they told me they have no wait list. I am going to start in Jan. I applied in August.

:yeah:Good news, after looking at all of my options, found that Ventura College was an Awesome choice and they have a brand new Nursing Building that is soon to open this Jan 2011 and I just was accepted to the CNA Program and will be in the 1st class to start in the new building. I checked out a few LVN Schools VERY COSTLY$27K here in Ventura for private school up to $35K in Westlake Village and Ventura College for the RN Program $6K PRICELESS...There is no wait list, you just need to get VERY good grades to be one the lucky chosen ones....I have my A.S. Degree now since 1992 YEP and they accepted it as well as my Grades and Science Core of Courses, Moorpark College DOES NOT TAKE or allow you to retake ANY CORE OF COURSES over for a better grade and any W or R on your transcript with Moorpark will count against you whereas Ventura DID NOT COUNT AGAINST YOU. BUT again, have thought about all my options and if for some reason it takes me two years + to get into RN Program I will then choose the LVN program option and then Bridge across over to RN. Lots of options just have to go for it and TRY...I left my job last day Nov 24th and plan on going all out and GET THE VERY BEST GRADES so I can get into the RN Program Spring 2012 that is my plan...THE BEST ADVISE PLAN PLAN PLAN financially, Emotionally and Physically so you can reach your dreams...:nurse:and 25 years ago becoming an RN was my dream and the top of my bucket list and I am finally blessed to go for it. GOOD LUCK to all of you, life is to short !! JUST DO IT:up:

You may want to recheck the amount of classes you can retake. I know that both Ventura and Moorpark are now on the points system and repeats in the core classes (anatomy, physiology and micro) count against you if you retake more then one. The last time i talked to the Ventura counselors they said they have zero wait list, so hopefully you wont have to go through the LVN program.

If you do go the LVN rout you join the class at second semester. You just have to have the prereques finished and keep your LVN license current.

Volcomcna- if you are still looking I would look into the LVN program in Westlake, PMCI. They are price, but the clinical instructors are amazing, and their psych instructor is really passionate about it (I hated psych, but she made it livable)

Good Luck and let me know what you decide =)

Thanks Amac I will look into that school, I spoke to them before and it is a bit pricey but we will see what numbers they throw at me this time. I tried Simi Valley Adult School but the LVN program has been discontinued with them and CCI has bad reviews I will contact them soon =) thanks
