It is a small world.... sooner or later, you seem to run into old friends, or find that others you meet are from a part of town you have been, ect... Was wondering if there were any other Ocala Nurses in here... Take care and have a great day!!!!:)

Hi! I just interviewed in Ocala at Hospice of Marion County. I currently live in NJ but I'm moving down to Levy county in a couple of months. Ocala is a beautiful area - I looked around there a few months ago, but I like being in a real quiet rural area so I headed west. Now I think Ocala's a little too far for a commute. I used to work in homecare with a nurse named Lyle who moved to Summerfield with her hubby and horses.

Well Hello fellow friends of Ocala... nice to meet you.

I may be moving to the Ocala area in about 10 months. Where do you all work? What do you like about where you work, what do you dislike? I won't actually live in Ocala, probably Leesburg, or Tavares.

:welcome: I live in the Leesburg area and work at The Villages Regional Hospital. It's a beautiful hospital;but, I can't say it's the best place to work.

No attention is paid to acuity of the patients. We are always begging the pharmacy for medications. Pt's are just dumped in a room... ready or not with little report. Finding equipment, suction, pumps, dressings etc. is usually a treasure hunt. We have phones to keep with us at all times that frequently don't work. We do our documentation on computers but still have a mountain of paperwork to do. We mush check our charts every 12 hours to double check the clerks work, the pharmacy med sheets to double check the pharmacy.... in other words the nurse is responsible for everyone elses work. Who has time for that? There are times when I feel I barely have enouth time for the patients;and, they are the real reason I am there.

The staff is great and there is a real effort for team nursing but administration is full of talk. Makes me a bit sad. I have been a nurse for a zillion years in other states and am dissappointed in this institution.

I try not to say too much at work because I don't want to seem negative; but, agree whole heartedly when other nurses vent and that is frequent. It's amazing how most of us have the same concerns.

Our Director asked each of us how we felt about our jobs several months ago; but, she really didn't want to hear anything that wasn't 100% positive.

My best to you though. Hospice of Marion County is a great place to work. I worked there for a while but needed more flexibility in my scheduling. They really do care for the employees and the patients. The salary isn't the best;but, life is one trade off after another. I may consider going back there someday. You really feel you are making a difference in a patients life when they and their family need real support. You are tremendously appreciated by the families! You get hugs from team members and supervisors when you feel down. You really feel needed and appreciated.

Thank you funnygirl, that's very helpful info.

If I make the move, I'll be living in Eustis. Palmo, Gainesville is a good hike from Eustis no?

Hi...

Eustis is not too far from Gainesville, really...let's say...too far to work, I guess, but a day trip....about 1 1/2 to 2 hours...maybe...depending on traffic.

I went to Fruitland Park a few years back to a retreat...which isn't too far from Eutis...not a bad area...

Hello, new to this site. I am a operating room nurse in Gainesville, but live near Williston. Nice to meet you. This seems like a great site to chat and exchange ideas.
