Hi I am going to try to work 16 hours a week in ICU dept. when NS starts up again. This will be my last year in my ADN program. I have a 3 yr. old and a 5 yr. old. But my problem is that I am going to work 16 hrs. a week and I m wondering if there are any nursing students out there who study while working in the hospital? I need to somehow study while Im at work, So does anyone know...Can I study while working as a nurse tech in the hospital?
Ya working can be hard if you can't take some of the school work with you. When I have to work. I take my flash cards with me that I made for a class that I know I have a test in. The nurses help me also if I have any questions. It all depends on who and where you work also. And always put work first. Really shows the boss that you can multitask and know your priority.
While I was in NS I worked the PCU in our area hospital. My problem was working full time. Just don't over do it. Remember, school usually just gets harder as it goes. I was able to study sometimes at work, they would even try to give me the 1:1. There were also nights that I couldn't study, due to a full moon being out lol, or other things. Know your boundries and limitations. Family is also important. It's hard to balance the two. I would set my daughter up with an activity in the kitchen, while I sat with her and studied. Good luck to you.
I worked in the hospital as a tech and a secretary. When I was a tech I was so busy that I did not bring anything to study because it was pointless. When I was a secretary I was able to study for the most part but sometimes my coworkers would interupt me and ask what I was studying and start asking questions. Then if I got up they would look at my notes and my books. I just looked at the schedule ahead of time and saw who I was working with to determine if I would be able to study or not.
i worked part time while in nursing school but it wasn't in a hospital. honestly, i liked working part time because it was a break from nursing school/hospital setting. i studied there all of the time when i could sneak it in and no one was around. if anything, it was a positive because i had set hours where i could actually sit down and get things done.

I couldn't imagine working while I went to nursing school. If you can do it, you are amazing! Several of my fellow student/moms actually rented motel rooms on the weekends while their spouses took care of the kids. Good luck!
