Any Nursing as a second bachelors students out there??

Published

Hiya :nuke: I just graduated this last May from Kansas State University and am now wanting to go back to get my bachelors in Nursing. Just wondering if anyone had advice on programs such as accelerated BSN or jumping into a masters.

Congratulations! :)

I think both programs (acc. BSN & direct MSN) are good. The decision to apply to a specific program largely depends on your future goals. Direct MSN might save you money in the long-run, especially if you know that you want to become an advanced practice nurse or serve in a leadership role at a hospital. However, if you aren't sure that you want to practice nursing at this level, then you might want to start with the BSN.

I am planning to apply to entry-level MSN programs in the near future. Can't wait! :)

I'm also a second degree student. I have applied to accelerated BSN programs nas well as Johns Hopkins for their BSN/MSN program. I do agree with what the other post said that if you know that you want to take more of a leadership role doing the direct MSN will save you some money and time. I'm waiting to hear from the schools I applied to so wish me luck and I wish you luck on whatever you decide too.

I just graduated in June from University of Ca-San Diego so I'm in the same boat. So far I only applied to one school (also Johns Hopkins) and I'll be hearing back this week. I'm still taking prerequisites and I gotta say that this is the reason why I can't apply to a lot of other schools. Several schools require different things so my advice is to do a lot of research and find out what prerequisites they require. Then try to knock them out as much as you can and apply to schools as you go. They also vary a lot in deadlines so you might want to keep track as you do your research. Also get to know your teachers well! You'll need those letters of rec.

Here is what I have learned.

I have a B.S. in Business Marketing and this past May decided to quit my job and return to school to complete the pre-reqs. I looked into the direct entry masters programs and also the accelerated programs. I really think accelerated is the way to go. I have applied and awaiting a decision from Duquesne, Akron U. Kent State and Robert Morris in PA.

Do well on your pre-requisites and learn and understand chemistry. Also, go shadow in a hospital to really get a feel for the nursing field, also while your taking your pre-reqs you might want to consider becoming a nurses aid. This not only will give you some clinical experience prior to school but it looks really good on your nursing school application because it shows the admissions committee that you are serious about becoming a nurse and have really thought this through.

I'm going to an accelerated program in the fall. I will have spent about a year and a half on prerequisites, going mostly full time. I second volunteering/shadowing at a hospital. I've been following a CRNP around for about 5 months and it has been such an amazing experience. I've been able to use my A&P & Micro concepts to understand what's going on with the patients she works with.
