I'm going to start nights and wanted to here stories about how well or bad it worked with your kids. I have a 3 almost 4 year old, and don't know how it will affect her not having me home at night please help, I'm feeling overwhelmed!

I'm a mom of 4, I've been on nights for a year(when I'm not in school). I like it in that I know they are safe, I rarely have to call in sick because my fiance will watch the sick kids during the night, and I'm home during the day when the kids are awake and need me. I struggle a lot during school because I'm not around during the day for them.
I will mention, I had just the 5 and 7 year old children for a week and it was tough getting enough sleep.

Thanks so much! I was at home 24/7 for 2 months w my little girl and going back was just so overwhelming. I feel so down cause I just miss her so much! And I'm only doing days for orientation than switching to nights. This brought me up! Thanks so much, about how many hours do you sleep in the day after work?
I'm lucky in that I'm the type of person who can wake up do something for the kids and go back to sleep and repeat as necessary. I usually sleep from about 8 (sometimes I can get to sleep sooner) until 4 with interruptions. On my last night I just grab a quick nap so I can spend the rest of the day with my kids. I usually make plans with them for that day so they bug me a lot to wake me up(like promise to take them swimming).

I work nights with a 12, 11, 11, and 7 year old. I didn't do it until recently though because I wanted them to be somewhat self sufficient during the day so I could sleep but still be there in case of school calling or an emergency. Then on days off like today We will go and get stuff done with a special treat like swimming or a trip for ice cream. Today it will be catching up on shots, eye checks and ice cream.

Probably a little tougher without help at home to work nights when they are little but it is great when the kids are school age. I started nights when I was in school, and found it worked great with the kids schedules so I stuck with it. That was about 15 years ago and even though the kids are grown and gone I am still on nights! It was nice to work at night when they are sleeping, sleep during the day when they are in school and have time together in the evenings.

I have a 12 year old, 9, and 6 year olds. I love working nights! I can sleep while they are in school during the day, and work while they are sleeping, and we have evenings together. it works really well for my family!
