I graduated in May and have put applications everywhere I can think of. I want to work NICU as it where my passion has been for awhile, either that or newborn nursery. I've had thirteen years of LPN experience in adult acute care and geriatrics. I can't even seem to score an interview, but I can get dear john/jane emails. I am starting to apply out of state, even though I'll have to re-apply for licensure by examination to whatever state will give me a chance.
Btw I have applied to things other than NICU, just can't seem to score a job. Anyone else having this problem? Most of my classmates that I know of had jobs lined up before graduation, and I started looking in Feb.
Sorry, but I'm just so frustrated right now.
Have you heard anything yet?
no. I ran into the manager in question at the orientation for the BSN completion program I'm hoping to go to. Apparently HR is "reviewing" my application due to my job history. I called HR yesterday and they have no idea what I'm asking about. The manager makes the decision, blah, blah blah. I guess I need to wash my hands of this place since they are intent on playing games. Don't tell a person they have the job, then come up with eveything else to not get said job. The only thing needed was to be placed into a position in the computer and start the pre-employment process. Once again my LPN job history is being used against me, even though with this one I was told it wasn't going to be.
New Grad 0, Job history 30+ the number of jobs I've applied for and have been denied even an interview.
I was informed that Kentucky actually has a surplus of nurses. Even though there is a shortage of nurses in larger cities like Atlanta, New York, Chicago, etc., Kentucky doesn't need nurses per se. My sister works at University Hospital and said that even though they need help, the schedule is always fully staffed. University Hospital has a lot of open job postings on their website, but in reality, they may not really be hiring unless a nurse quits their job or if a nurse is fired from their job.

Very true. KY doesn't need nurses per se, but they do need the older nurses to precept us new ones. That's what KY is short in. I had an interview yesterday and the nurse recruiter mentioned that is what the main problem with hiring new grads. Which really sucks since a lot of us don't have the money to relocate to areas where there is a need, and relocation assistance usually doesn't help until you are already there.
Nope! Actually I was surprised at how fast I was offered a job. I applied for a position on Wednesday night, was called by HR Thursday afternoon, interviewed Tuesday, and got an offer today. It's unreal.
You are very lucky. If I managed to get the recruiters to call me back with an interview, I still wouldn't get the job. I applied for a few more positions last month in a last ditch effort to not have to move. Nothing, just the same old emails saying "though your qualifications are impressive, we've decided to go ahead with another applicant". This at the company I'm supposedly eligible for rehire at. Oh well, its off to NC for me. Who know, they change might do me good.
Something on your resume or letters or something has to be throwing up a red flag. I'm still in school and will graduate in December but I had many friends who graduated from EKU this past December and everyone of them had jobs secured in January at the latest. Heck several had multiple offers and were able to pick what they wanted.
I would suggest contacting someone at a career builder service or something to have them review your resume. They might be able to see the problem.
Good luck though.

I'll be the first to admit my job history is horrible, but I should have been able to find something in the state hospital-wise. Even the place I'm supposedly eligible for rehire with. All I wanted was a chance to start fixing the main issue with my job history, and that can only be done by getting said job and working....proving I can stay for the long haul. With the sheer number of new grads in my area I guess the hospitals can be as picky as they wish, even if it means a perfectly good nurse now has to leave the state in order to actually get a job. My job history sucks, but how am I to fix it if I can't get a job?
Also, I've had several professional nurses/professors look at my resume. The problem is the number of jobs I've had in a certain amount of time. Looks bad, but there isn't a thing I can do about it. I can't not list the jobs. All I can do is explain what happened and hope for the best. Fortunately I have finally found someone willing to give me a chance to prove I can be reliable. I just had to give up trying to find a job in KY to do so. Irks me to no end to go to a hospital website that has well over 70 RN positions open and I can't get an interview for the ones I'm qualified for.

So I am finding out. I noticed three more postings open on night shift, so I applied to them. Its not the exact req# the manager said he was waiting for, but I don't see why I can't be put into one of them. If I'm wanted, why is it so hard to get the pre-employment screening started. I mean apparently my reference check is done, all I need to do now is the drug screen and background check. Oh and get a salary quote.
I'm just going to keep calling. Can't hurt at this point to keep on them.
