  1. I was informed that Kentucky actually has a surplus of nurses. Even though there is a shortage of nurses in larger cities like Atlanta, New York, Chicago, etc., Kentucky doesn't need nurses per se. My sister works at University Hospital and said that even though they need help, the schedule is always fully staffed. University Hospital has a lot of open job postings on their website, but in reality, they may not really be hiring unless a nurse quits their job or if a nurse is fired from their job.
  2. After looking back over both programs, it takes about the same amount of time like you said. The accelerated BSN program that I want to do in my area is $34,000+ for just 12 months. This program is offered with the private college that I got my BA in accounting and MBA degree. But I have 5 pre-requisite courses to take before being completely accepted into the program which will take me a year and a half to do since I work full-time. The ADN program is $9,000 for 2 years. This program is offered at a community college. I only have 2 pre-requisite courses to take which will take me just one semester to do.
  3. I have a Bachelor of Arts in accounting and Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA). I'm thinking about becoming a nurse, and I would like to go through an ADN program instead of a BSN program since its less expensive and quicker. Since I have an MBA degree, is it possible to have the same job advancement opportunities as someone with a BSN and/or MSN??? Thanks in advance! GorJess
  4. You may be having a hard time finding a job in NICU because you do not have experience working with newborn babies/pediatrics. It's very hard to land a job starting off in NICU as a recent grad. You only have experience in adult care/geriatrics. Try applying for jobs in that. Then once you land a job as a geriatric nurse, you may want to inquire with your employer how you can obtain experience working with newborn babies. Hope that helps!
