Any Misericordia University ABSN 2021 students?

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi! My name is Lauren and I am looking to connect with any Misericordia University ABSN 2021 students at the Pittsburgh campus! Anyone out there?

Hi Lauren,

I am attending Misericordia University in the fall of 2021. I'm nervous, not sure what to expect.

Hi, my name is Celina, I am currently awaiting a decision on my application to Misericordia for Spring 2023. Would either of you be able to give some insight on how the program is going and what it’s like?

I hope both of you are doing well and are enjoying the program!

Hi,

I’ve been accepted to the Spring 2023 cohort. I’ve really searched high and low for anything or anyone to speak about their experience with the new Pittsburgh ABSN program and there isn’t much out there. Anyone have any input about the program? Current or former students? Educators?

Thanks!

Luke

Hi Luke,

I decided not to attend this University, due to the price and information from previous cohorts. They shared with me that the program is all about focusing on the students that can pass the NCLEX exam. They do not lecture, you teach yourself, which is concerning since this is a nursing program.  The administration are not good with responding to student emails and they talk bad about the students, and are disrespectful,  unprofessional,  basically they just want your money. It is your choice, ask questions about the lectures, if they are in person or online, also ask what is the criteria for passing skills lab what are the expectations from the faculty.  Have everything in writing, this University is way to expensive to fail out due to misleading or false advertising from the recruiters. I hope this helps...all the best.

Wow this is worrisome. I already accepted my admission and paid the deposit. I guess I’ll just have to hope for the best and hopefully I’ll have a different experience

Wow! Thanks for the info. I’ve been a little concerned about the program. I literally can’t find anyone who has been through it or are in it. I sent the critique here to the advisor there I have for clarification.

who in this thread is attending or plan to attend? We need to commiserate! My email is [email protected]

anyone else out there with any experience with misericordia ABSN please reach out!

After being accepted by Miseri’s Pittsburgh ABSN program days after applying in June 2022 an advisor has just told me end of September 2022.  I would need to retake classes I have just taken at an accredited college to attend their new satellite program. They said I need to retake Microbiology and nutrition which I literally just took in 2022 without any explanation why my credits from an accredited college would not count for their program. They also wanted me to retake a 100 level sociology class which I have taken several of in my college career. Nothing like a modern sociology 100 level redundant class to help in a nursing career! LOL!

They suggested I retake the courses with them online asynchronously so I could attend their online ABSN program. I asked why the credits I just earned for those classes earlier this year at an accredited college wouldn’t work there and there was no explanation given. None. Very strange.

I tried for a long time to get any students current or past to speak of the program and couldn’t find one person. Nor was the advisor able to provide anyone to speak with.

I was accepted to other nursing programs in the Pittsburgh area and have chosen to attend one of them as the accreditation processes were timely and seamless with all of them and there wasn’t confusion on the institutions’ behalf.

They must have a very specific curriculum unlike any other accredited school’s. Working with them was a very unclear and protracted process and the advisor I spoke with was rather uninformed about any metrics regarding NCLEX pass rates, attrition rate, accreditation models and institutional characteristics.

I would suggest to potential nursing student to be wary of going down the admissions process with Misericordia. Given the Pittsburgh satellite ABSN program is rather new and perhaps there are lots of kinks still being worked out. There are lots of nursing programs in the Pittsburgh area and my partner nor I have had any issues with simple things like accreditation at any others.

Good luck!

Wow that’s weird and unfortunate. Hopefully with time there will be more student to be able to give more feedback for the future classes. I am currently set to start at Misericordia in January and am currently enrolled in a statistics course to fulfill that course since they did not accept my biostatistics course. It’s u fortunate that they did not accept your other classes. Maybe they just weren’t equivalent to what they wanted? Whatever the case may be, wish you the best of luck! Everybody has different experiences and it is unfortunate. But time will tell!

if there are any other students planning to enroll, there will be an “open house” next month so we can meet current students and what not. And in November we will be meeting as a cohort so we can meet eachother!

Hi Cel0424,

thanks for reaching out! We were almost classmates! The credit transfer was very weird. I just took Microbiology and nutrition in the last 6 months. I couldn’t get any info why the classes I took wouldn’t be accepted at all. I believe they are trying to set everyone up to succeed in their program but I’m very curious what extra info their ansynchronous micro and nutrition class have that mine didn’t. LOL! No answers. Oh well! Seems like biostats should have worked too. As long as it hit on some standard deviation, hypothesis testing, standard distributions, probability and confidence intervals what’s the dif? But hey, it’s the way they do it I guess.
I applied to some other schools in Pitt at the same time and ended up choosing to go to La Roche’s accelerated MSN program. 20 months instead of 16. Same price. Exit with MSN. I’m looking forward to the move to Pitt!

I hope miseri works out for you. I did speak with one of the directors and instructor for the program and she sounded very legit and no nonsense.

im certainly interested to see what it’s like. If you ever feel like chatting more or even meeting up sometime with my partner and I for coffee and commiseration that would be awesome! She’s a nurse, went to Duquesne about 5 years ago and is going to be working at the VA- good resource.

Ever onward and much success,

Luke
