Any MCC-Penn Valley Nursing Aug 2015 Applicants?

U.S.A. Missouri

Just wondering if there is anyone else on here who is planning to submit an application to MCC-Penn Valley's ADN program in August?

4 weeks until the application period begins. Anyone else planning to apply?

I will be applying, but I feel like I'm cutting it extremely close on taking my TEAS. I scheduled it for August 3rd and the application period begins on the 6th. I'll only have one chance to take it, but I did well on my practice exam without studying, so I expect to do well on the actual exam since I'm working through the ATI study guide. I feel like a doofus for letting the summer get away from me, I'm normally never this careless!

Hopefully you do well. The minimum score at PV is low, so hopefully that helps. I am not sure what role your score plays in their decision process. Probably only comes into play if you have the same points and are tied with another applicant. Maybe used as a tie breaker??? Otherwise, I think as long as you have that minimum score you are good.

I only took it once and did well. I did better on the actual TEAS than on the one practice exam I took.

The math section was basically pre-algebra, there was some very basic algebra (solving for x). Science had some basic chemistry and biology. I had just taken chemistry so that helped. I had not yet had micro and it had been a long time since I had biology. If you have had either of those recently that will help. English was similar to the compass, but I thought it was harder. Just be sure and pay attention to your time, don't spend too long on any one question. I have heard of people not doing well because they ran out of time.

On the practice test I did the best on the reading section, and I completed it in 37 minutes. I've read that the passages are longer on the actual test, so I'll have to be mindful of that. Science was, surprisingly, my worst section, with a score of 60.4. I need to review chemistry, I took it last summer and I don't feel like I retained much at all. My overall score was 75.3, I hope to improve on that after I work through the study manual. I'm surprised that all we need is a 51.3 to pass. I'm going to time myself better on the next practice test, I cut it the closest on math (but I also took the test with my kids running around, so that definitely didn't help).

I took the compass test two years ago when I first enrolled at MCC, will I have to take that again? My math score was awful, I had been out of high school for 11 years at that point, but I took Math 20, 40, and 110 and passed all with an A.

Your compass is fine. The website says it cannot be over 3 years.

I got like a 70 on the practice and scored a 84 on the TEAS. I did not go back and study.i wanted to see how I did and was planning to take it a second time, but since I did well I just stuck with my first score. Do the focused study for the areas you struggled with and I bet you will do fine.

Hey everyone (not that there are many of us here yet),

Some of us set up a FB group. It is for those in the nursing program or in the process of applying. If you would like to join the group PM me your email and I will add you.

The group is currently just closed, but we will move it to secret here shortly.

I don't think my PM function is enabled yet, I haven't posted enough. I found it and joined, thank you for sharing this!

@CrownCity, I recommend not having a personal pic as your avatar on this site. Better to remain as anonymous as possible on this board.

Swapped for the awesome storm trooper, lol!

Application period opens TODAY!

I'm thinking about pulling myself together and driving down to PV to turn in my application. I'm afraid to mail it, I want to know that it got there safe and sound!
