Hello! I have been an LPN for over 25 yrs. I am in nursing program now. I have 'common sense' and sail through clinicals - no probelm.
What scares me is that my college/city is very negative - Oh your not going to make it - etc-yada yada. My biggest concern is the "careplans'. In 25 yrs - I have never seen careplans and cannot believe they even 'use these' as they are pre-printed and hospital stays are too short for a 65 page careplan! Yes I said 65 page! They want 2 nursing diagnosis - and scientific rationale to 'the celluar level'! This year only 2 two diagnosises. It doesn't have to be the 65 pager yet! Thats next year. I am bad at writing papers! My topic is 'obesity'.
Can anyone help me? Books? etc?
Thanks
Rae Ann

Hi,
I thought our 17 page care plans were rough, lol. There are so many care plan books that are good. I would ask your instructor for a recommendation because that way you will be giving them exactly what they want. If you know a student that does good ones ask them if you can take a peek and see where they are headed. Our school let us have a copy of an excellent student's care plan from a previous year, with her permission, and it was very helpful.
Just jump through the hoops and you will be fine. Good luck. Jules

I use "Nursing Care Plans" Nursing diagnosis and intervention 6th edition from Gulanick/Myers. I am a nurse consultant and have to put plan in place for the direct care staff they are not really detailed only what to do if(mostly interventions) and I love this book it has helped me so much.
Good luck you can do it!!!!!!

If your med-surg book doesn't have a rationale down to the cellular level, try looking for the answer in a physiology or pathophysiology book. I had to do that for a few nursing care plans in med-surg II.
