Any Jan 2010 UIC GEP Applicants Out There?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi all!

I'm new to the allnurses.com site and am so impressed at the wealth of information available on here. Kudos to everyone who participates and posts- sharing your knowledge is so valuable, especially to newbies like me! So, I wanted to start a roll call for Jan 2010 UIC GEP applicants on here.

Yes, it may be a little early considering applications aren't due until March 2009, but I'm super excited (and terrified). I'd love the opportunity to commiserate with some fellow students over the intimidating application process. I just started studying for the GRE and am feeling like I need to go back to the second grade to re-learn basic math!! Did anyone else have this same experience?

I'm 26, work full time in a completely non-health care field, graduated with a degree in Philosophy and pre-med emphasis (don't worry, I came to my senses right out of college and decided med school is not the most effective way (for me) to make a difference!). Most of my pre-reqs are done, except for A&P II and the Research Methods course. I'm having trouble getting letters of reccommendation, shadowing a NP, and studying the GRE (test anxiety...yuck!). Hope to hear from you guys!

I received the supplemental app very shortly after submitting the UIC app-- either the next day or the day after that.

Liu2, when did you submit your UIC application? It's been six days since I submitted mine and I have not received the supplemental application yet...

I was trying, but can't remember the exact day I submitted it. It was recently, though, within the last week. Afterwards I got an email from "conapply" linking to the supplemental application, and the day after that I also got an email from the UIC graduate admissions office, not the nursing school, with a link to check the status of my application. I wouldn't worry too much as they did say it could take up to 10 days to send the supplement, and maybe it's not automatic but just up to somebody to take a minute to check and then do it, but maybe you should check the status of your application. Did you get that email?

Liu2, thanks for the info. It would be nice if they had made that clear on the website.

judr, I submitted my general application on Monday, Jan. 26th. I received the email from the graduate school saying to check my status online on Wed, Jan. 28th. I received the nursing school application email on Thurs, Jan 29th.

Thanks guys - I just contacted UIC and discovered that I failed to include my email address in my application. Oops. Aspiring.midwife, you said Chris Ocampo is out of town now - do you know when he'll be back?

judr,

Yes, when I emailed him on Thursday, I got an automated reply saying he'd be out of town Jan. 29th and 30th. So, I assume he's back in the office this week, though I haven't gotten a reply to my email yet.

Hi everyone,

I just submitted my supplemental application - yippee! I wonder if any of you have encountered this problem - although I pasted my resume into the available box in the online application, when I print the application my resume does not show up, though my essays and all my other answers (pre-reqs, languages, previous nursing school, etc) do. Is that just the format they've created? When you all printed your final supplemental application, did your resume appear on it?

I don't know, I didn't print mine. I have a different problem-- the page that comes up after I submitted the app, where it lists the recommenders and the status of their letters, doesn't work for me-- it never refreshes, and still says they've not been sent an email even though I've already heard from one of them that he got the email. Do you have that problem? I wrote to ask what to do about it a few days ago but nobody's responded. I don't want to have to nag all my recommenders!

Yes, mine is doing the same thing - it still says "no email" even though I know that the recommenders have received emails. One of my recommendations has already been sent in, and that status has now been changed to "received." That leads me to believe that the status will only change once our recommenders send in the letters.

liu2, would you just check the disappearing resume problem by clicking on the "please click here to print the application form" portion of that webpage and have a look to see if your resume shows up in addition to all the other answers on your supp app? i'm a little nervous that my resume got lost...

I don't have the application webpage open any more-- I thought that after I submitted it, the page changed automatically to the rec status page, but maybe I'm mistaken and just wasn't paying attention and closed the window. As far as I know there is no way to get back to my application-- if you know of a way, I'd be happy to try it out. Now I'm starting to feel a little edgy about not having printed it myself...

For me, it's not only that the "status" of the recs hasn't changed, but the page doesn't work-- the links where you click to reload the page to update the status are not functional links. I guess I'll have to call them.

hi liu2,

i am still able to access my application by first clicking on the link to the supplemental application that was sent to us by the con in an email, then that takes me to a page that says:

dear applicant,

thank you for your interest in admission to the college of nursing at the university of illinois at chicago. now you have completed the supplemental application for the college of nursing.

please click here to check if your recommenders have submitted their letters. please click here to print the application form.

then i can click on the first link to access the recommender page to see the status of my letters of rec, or on the second link to access a final copy of my application as it was submitted. this second page, the final application, is the one that does not show my resume as part of the app. also, you can print a copy of your final application on this page, that way you will have a paper copy.

hope that helps - let me know if you can access your final app and whether your resume is there or not.
