Any info on UT Chattanooga?

This board is great. Thank you to everyone for sharing information. It helps all who are in process or just thinking of this course in life. I have questions of my own.

My application is in to UTC and I've read all there is to read. I eventually plan on the campus visit, but wondered if anyone had any firsthand accounts of the interview process there.

Also, if there are any current or former UTC students out there, I would appreciate hearing about your class experience (How many days a week, overall "feeling", etc...). I plan on commuting.

Thanks in advance.

SuperSleeper, I have a co-worker who is trying to get her stuff together so she can apply for the same program at UT-Chat. but she is really trying to go through the North Ms Med Cntr split option, you know where she she can finish up her clinicals here in Ms and most of her coursework as well. We have only been able to obtain the regular info on the program so far, but would love to get some inside scoop.

Are there any nurses on this board that are currently in the program through UT Chat/NMMC? This is what my plan is since I currently work for NMMC and live around the Tupelo area.

While interviewing for UT Memphis, I met a first year who used to work at NMMC, he spoke pretty badly about the program, saying they used students for scut work. Even though he worked there, he didn't even apply. I also heard the same thing from another CRNA who used to be involved with the program. Also, they say the clinical part of the experience is very limited. However, take this with a grain of salt, as this is second hand info.

Thanks for the reply. I have been out of the hospital setting for some time now and I really don't know what all goes on there. I am planning to transfer to the one of the units after the first of the year for my ICU experience and I guess I will find out more then. So how is the program in Memphis?

I don't start at UT until July, but I can't wait. The person I mentioned just got back from her UT Chat-Tupelo interview an said they asked the usual personal questions as well as some clinical questions. When I interviewed at UT Memphis, everyone was great. The instructors and first years were very friendly and helpful. I can't say enough about it.

Hey thanks for the info. I plan to apply at both UT Mem & UT Chatt and pray that one of them will take me. I still have to get into the ICU and work for at least a year. I'm hoping that the one year will do. Surely that can see with all of my other exp and long time nursing that I can learn. I hope so anyway.

I am currently a junior in the UTC program. The learning curve is so great right now. I am in clinical two days a week and classes two days a week. I study 7 days a week. There is a lot to learn and many opportunities to learn. I have been on some major cases and minor cases. I have taken care of neonates to geriatric patients. In two weeks we go to five days a week clinical. You will learn a lot more then. We put in central lines, arterial lines, epidurals and spinal. We do just about anything a MDA can do. As far as cases, they do work you here but you are here to learn. You will get way more cases than you need. All varieties. Hearts, cranis, and more. Any more questions feel free to post.

oneprice,

can you tell us anything about the interview? Do they focus a lot on clinical questions? I heard they ask a lot about vents and diprivan. any input would be GREAT!

Hello,

I hope to apply to UTC in the Fall 2011. Any words of wisdom would be nice. I was dissapointed because I live in Atlanta; which is quite close to UTC (2 hours I think), but I still don't qualify for in-state tuition. Dalton County Georgia residents qualify. Oh well.... I will sit for CCRN in 5 weeks and I start Medical Biochemistry in September.

Thanks for your time

Atlantanurse- I just moved to ATL a couple months ago and wondering how long it takes to receive a GA nursing Lic? I am not a new nurse but ready to hit the streets for a job in someone's ICU. I see you work at Emory, how is it there? I was working at the trauma center in Memphis before moving and enjoyed the craziness of a trauma center. Is Emory a trauma center? UT CHAT? UT Memphis is a great school and you will have your DNP when its all said and done. I took the CCRN about a month into living here in GA and it was not all that bad. I did not think I was going to do well, considering the move and all, but I was determined to have it by the time I applied to some more CRNA programs. Thanks for the input.

Hey,

I think I had my license in a couple of weeks. Emory Midtown is a level two trauma center. Emory University hospital is a "University Research hospital" It is a high acuity ICU but if we get trauma it is usually not an admit from our ER,but from a hospital in the surrounding area. I didn't know UT Chattanooga CRNA was a DNP program.

Good Luck
