Any incredible volunteer opportunities in NYC?

I want to volunteer more before nursing school and my only experience has been in Pennsylvania, so I don't know what I will be able to do in New York. I'd love to do something where I can see nurses as they're working, get a feel for the environment, and directly help out staff. Anyone have/ had an amazing volunteer opportunity somewhere in NYC? Are there any special roles for those interested in pursuing the healthcare field or are the positions the same no matter what hospital? Are there also good nursing-related volunteering outside of hospitals?

I only know about hospital volunteering and not outside. I actually volunteer at a Brooklyn Hospital in the Labor and Delivery unit and I absolutely loveeeeeeeeeeeeee it!! I fortunately met nurses who want to teach you things and not just boss you around. I chose labor and delivery because I knew it wouldn't be as hectic as the emergency room and its the health area I am interested in.

If you want to volunteer in NYC make sure you sign up soon. Must medical facilities require orientation and medical tests which may take time. The high school students usually apply for summer positions so if you do want to volunteer make sure you sign up before then.
