1st Topic is Fluids & Electrolytes

What is Fluid Volume Excess? Too much fluid in your vascular space. (Veins, Arteries, capillaries also in the inside of your heart)

What causes Fluid Volume Excess? CHF/RF/IV fluids with Na,alkaseltzer, fleets enema, Aldosterone and ADH.

What can you tell me about Aldosterone? It makes you retain Na and Water. In your vascular space.

What can you tell me about ADH? It makes you retain water. In your vascular space.

The next topic will be ACID/BASE.

1. To much fluid

2.SIADH- Syndrome of Inappropriate Diurectic Hormone-reabsorption of fluid

3.Aldosterone-hormone thats essential to the body and it regulates all electrolytes

4.ADH-secreted by the Pituitary Gland regulates the amount of water being excreted by kidneys.

With SIADH-Do you have too much/too little ADH?

Too little maybe

With SIADH-Do you have too much/too little ADH?

Excessive ADH -- all that extra anti-diuretic action makes someone with SIADH retain fluids.

So the answer is to much ADH since your retaining fluid

Do I understand this correct since your retaining fluid does that mean you have too much ADH?

Flip it around, and you'll be right -- if you have too much ADH you will retain fluid. But retaining fluid does not necessarily mean you have too much ADH. Do you see what I mean? There are other reasons a person could retain fluids -- it's not always ADH.

That is correct!:typing

Also you can have too much ADH-which will result in SIADH (you will retain water) and you can have not enough ADH which will result in DI-which you will lose water.

LunahRN,

Yes, I know there's other reason people retain to much fluid..I understand that much but when you say flip it around what do you mean? Did I answer the question right as well meaning to much fluid if you have Excessive ADH. Thanks so much.
