Any hospitals out there doing 8 hr shifts?

Published

All the hospitals in my area staff with 12 hour shifts only. Does anyone work in a hospital that does 8 hour shifts? If so, which area of the country are you in?:o

We only hire in 4-8's a week. If a 12 hours position opens up and you want it, you can move into it based on seniority.

full time staff RNs work 12s only. Agency nurses come in a lot and work 8s though, maybe try an agency?

Kudos to that Nurse Manager. The evidence does show that in 12 hour shifts, more mistakes are made and nurses may be in danger too.

Detroit. I work 8's and 12's. Usually I'll do a week of 3 12's and then one or two weeks of one 12 and three 8's. I hate this, I wish I worked 3 12's like most of the other nurses on the floor, but I am low on the totem pole. Although a 7a-3p shift can be really awesome if you can get done and leave on time!

Specializes in burn ICU, SICU, ER, Trauma Rapid Response.

I have worked in 4 states as an RN, WI, MN, OR, & CA. Every hospital I ever worked in had both 8 & 12 hour shifts available for those that wanted/needed them.
